Baratza Sette 270wi - worthless?

Recommended Posts

So I know everyone here hates them with a passion and thinks they're a worthless plastic piece of junk - but how much might I be able to get for a Sette which I've had for about 16 months (I think), if anything?

No issues with it so far, and I really like everything about it - except having to brace myself for the noise.

If it's not sellable I'll just buy some earplugs and wait until it breaks...

Anything priced well will sell. Maybe £160?

I like the Sette W270i and just swap regularly between grinders to enjoy different workflows. If I enjoy one particular coffee for a couple of weeks, with the hopper and weighting it's a good grinder. The noise....no comment.

New they are 520£ ish and maybe list on a different platform for 350? I doubt with the comments on the forum it will sell for a decent price.

My tactic is similar: I'll try to enjoy my purchase till it last. Either at home or at work. Or set it up ready for a particular coffee or decaff. That's worth more to me than taking a ≥250£ loss.

I picked up a damaged one on these forums in exchange for some beans; gearbox is shot and a broken microswitch with a few other minor issues.  In the US, Baratza will refurbish a Sette 270w for a flat rate $90 (about 70 quid) and you essentially get a new machine with a 6-month warranty.  I'm not sure what avenues we have here in the UK in that regard though.  CoffeeHit has spare parts for the Sette.

I wouldn't say the 270wi is "worthless", but certainly not worth what they're going for new. £200-300 in excellent "low-mileage" condition isn't too far of a stretch.  The plastic gearboxes don't last longer than 2 years, so yours already has one foot in the grave so to speak, so £150 is probably close to the mark.

Thanks everyone, in that case I think I'll just keep it and put a new grinder on my Christmas list...
