If a flat white is typically 160ml, what do standard coffee shops serve?

Recommended Posts

I ordered some 'flat white' cups today and didn't really think about how small they would be!

Flat whites are typically 160ml (according to google) and these cups are perfect as I've been looking for a smaller drink.

It does leave me questioning what the likes of Costa etc are serving when they say flat white.

Is it essentially saying flat white steamed milk but in a larger cup?

Hi, I ordered a flat white cups in a 5 oz size which is pretty small (about 140ml I think). I also googled the size and  found 5-6oz is mentioned a lot. Also ordered 7oz cappuccino cups. Have no idea how these sizes are going to look but I have 8oz and 9oz cups if I need something larger. I don’t like big milky drinks anyway as they become a bit sickly to me about halfway through the cup. Cortado is a nice size so I sometimes order that if I am in a coffee shop and they have it.

Yeah I ordered a small selection of 5.5 to 6oz from this site: https://coffeecups.co.uk/collections/flat-white-cups/products/enrica-6oz-170ml-cup-yellow

They’re lovely! Wish I had seen those, bargain price as well. I ordered from the barista range in brown (same website). I am still waiting for delivery after over a week 🤷‍♀️but tbf I got a text to say sorry they had messed up my order and it should arrive at some point...

I don’t think Costa are representative of what I would call ‘proper’ coffee to be honest. I find ACME cups are a good barometer of a standardised cup size as they are used for the NZ barista championships.
