Fed up with Nespresso!

Recommended Posts

Hi All. Dag from Cheshire here - and I have never pulled a shot.

I took me a long time to appreciate coffee. I would get a latte from Starbucks every now and then without reflecting much on its quality and I had a Nespresso machine at home. But when I started my current job I got into the habit of having a cappuccino every morning and with lunch from the coffee shop at work. And occasionally - maybe a couple of times a week - I would think "Wow, that's a nice coffee!".

Then lock-down and working from home happened. Nespresso was a poor substitute, but I'd be back in the office in a few months, right? Fast forward 10 months and I can't take it any more. I need proper coffee! So I'm frantically reading up on temperature surfing, OPV, pressure profiling, PID and the like. I feel like an apprentice alchemist. What this will lead to, I hope, is me getting my first espresso set-up (and all the paraphernalia!) and being able to finally pull that lever or push that button.

I haven't quite decided what my first set-up will be yet, but I'll keep reading the forum and keeping an eye on the 'For sale' section. I don't think I can hold out much longer so will probably pull the trigger on something this week-end.

Welcome to the forum...might be worth detailing what your looking for from the machine. Also budget for machine and grinder. I'm sure you will get lots of interesting suggestions for a great combo.

Nothing here...

Me neither until after a couple of month's on here...very very similar story to yours....my Tassimo, coffee-shops and French Press got me by....a couple of hiccups (that's life for you) and i too had that urge to pull that trigger (easier said than done in my case) but eventually after doing my homework i got there.

Read, read and read some more....and yeah as stated above ☝️ "double that budget" if at all possible.

Enjoy your time and have fun 😋
