Does anyone elses machine make hissing, bubbling and clicking noises whilst warming up and experience a build up of pressure resulting in water/steam from the steam wand? I've recently fully stripped and cleaned it, changed all the seals and put it back together. There are no visible leaks and so I'm a bit stuck as to whether this is normal or an issue that needs fixing. The very loud bubbling noise has only come about since putting the machine back together following service. Is it a thermostat issue or something else? Please help!

Silly question, but have you got the brew and steam temp switches mixed up? Sounds as if the boiler is too hot, or the boiler is very low on water.

Any luck with a fix, or is it still not behaving?

Could I have put the thermostats back in the wrong place?

YES. if you have put the steam stat in the brew position the water will boil.

Ah, I was trying to see if mine were interchangeable, wasn’t sure they could get mixed up. Fingers crossed for you, fwiw I’ve heard of someone connecting them up incorrectly and having similar problem.

Not sure about the thermal fuse, but iirc that’s a power cut off for if the machine overheats for any reason, so I’d be surprised if it was.
Have you primed/bled it? That is to say, run the pump with the steam valve wide open, possibly without the nozzle? The pump puts water into the bottom of the boiler, but you need to fill it, so when the pump runs with the steam valve open any air in the boiler is forced up and out of the steam valve, leaving the boiler full of water and no air, same principle as bleeding a radiator fwiw. HTH.

Could this be related to the thermal fuse?

If you blew the thermal fuse there would be no heating power at all.

Please if you describe (maybe a video with sound) showing when the lights coming with the sound on might help.    Thermostats need to be finger tight - ideally with thermal paste on the contact surface.  they are also marked with a temperature / part number as well iirc.

It would also help to see brew hot water coming from the screen, and get a measure of the temperature.👍

The stats are marked with the temp setting, some are noisier than others what year I have a 2006 that’s a bit noisier than a 2012 the stock thermostats aren’t very good, did you use themral paste when refitting them? Could be the brew stat is off and water is boiling before elements shut off

If the brew stat has failed, it usually  fails closed, so it'll heat up until the thermal fuse blows.

Remove the brew thermostat, check it's marked 107c, if it's the correct one, then it has died. Buy new ones, they're about a fiver each, and well worth replacing if they haven't been swapped out for a few years.

+1 ☝️....yepp welded together....and agree; for the price it's better to replace than trying to fix/bodge the contacts.

“Rincewind wasn't used to people being pleased to see him. It was unnatural, and boded no good. These people were not only cheering, they were throwing flowers and hats. The hats were made out of stone, but the thought was there.”

Thank you all. I'll try the 'bleed' this morning. Also ordered a couple of new thermostats given the price. We'll see what that did firstly.

Brew stat low on left hand side of the boiler looking from the front of the machine, steam stat is at the top, the thermal fuse looks like a resistor in a piece of clear tubing that is supposed to be at the top of the boiler. HTH.

edit: make sure you install new or reinstall existing stats with thermal paste, it helps their sensitivity to temperature and reduces the “deadband” between too hot and too cool for both of them, giving a better brew temperature.
