gaggia classic pre 2015 no water

most likely a blocked solenoid valve or passage in grouphead have you removed the screen and dispersion plate under the group and checked they aren't blocked? if so and boiler fills and pump runs its probably the solenoid could be mechanical or electrical....either way get the spanners out (well screwdrivers and allen keys)

If you can hear the pump working when you push the switch for coffee, then it's definitely the case as HDAV says, if you don't hear the pump then the pump has died.

The pump definitely works. I took all the valves out, took them apart and cleaned them. checked everything was moving okay in them - all good.

Still no water.

I cannot get the screw out of the group head. I can drill it out if i know where to get a replacement. When i got the machine it was very very dirty in the group head.

As stated above, it could be solenoid blockage  or the brew head.   If you cannot unscrew the centre screw don't try drilling it out !!!

If you drill it out you could / may damage the brew head = Replacement £££.

The simplest way to remove the screw / screen =.  Bend the edges of the screen up to the centre, this will enable you to grip the screen and screw with pliers and unscrew it.   YES it means a new screen and screw but better / cheaper than damaging the brew head.

You will also need to remove the distribution plate behind the screen.  2 allen screws = thorough cleanup

Screws aren't expensive (postage is alot more) https://www.barista-shop.eu/p/spare-parts/home-machines-spare-parts/shower-screws-home-machines/756-shower-screen-screw-for-gaggia.html

Order a screen and a screw, I'd order a set of O rings as well If you remove the boiler assembly from the case you have a better access to the screw but there are tricks to get them off like folding the screen using a rubber band or blu-tac on the driver tip

I have cleaned the group head. I can blow through valves and everything. I have blown through solendoid, cleaned it and it all seems clear and bloackage free.

I am wondering if it is something to do witht he switch i am using. When i got the machine the switch was broken. I rebuilt it so that the outer switches work but the middle steam switch does not work. Maybe when this switch is off it is still doing something to allow the water through?/

The switches and wiring operate different components depending on the position of the switches.

If you have swapped / mixed them up you are on your own without knowing EXACTLY what you have done:whistle::confused:
