dosing funnel for Specialita

Recommended Posts

any recommendations out there? What's everyone using ? Seems v difficult to use one due to design. Sick of having to clear up coffee grounds after every grind. Are there models out there with a V niche in the funnel? Don't want to decant into a cup and then again into basket.

What size portafilter are you using?

this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Espresso-Precision-»Barista-Stainless-portafilter/dp/B07RXLSQ8W is designed for the machine but reviews are mixed and it's pricey

why does it need a V? Can you just remove the fork?

wont this do the trick? I do own one and it’s quite good. It’s not tall, approx. 17mm tall I think (I don’t use it anymore, so can’t remember).

@Nicknakof this forum also makes funnels. They are not cheap, but the craftsmanship and quality is top notch.

I actually asked the question on that link to Scarlett Espresso , and was told it fitted the mignon but NOT the specialita .

"no sorry, our funnel fits only at the older models, the shape is different from the specialita.

Best regards

No, I don’t struggle with mine, I tare the scales with the dosing cup, dose the approx amount of coffee into the cup (e.g. 20.2g), weigh, adjust and then put it into the portafilter using a cheap Edesia portafilter funnel. The problem is the Specialita’s dose changes slightly as the hopper level goes down, think about it as the turbo boost drops pushing beans into the burrs, unless you’re doing the old style finger levelling in a dosed portafilter or you’re single dosing I can’t see how anyone can get an accurate dose every single time out of a Specialita. Of course I could be way too OCD about it as well.... 🤐

I found that a standard magnetic dosing funnel fits fine if you lower the fork to the lowest setting. Nice and sung and no grinds. Just open the screw and pull down. See pics.

My wife chose the colour but I much prefer that to chrome. Enough shiny things in the kitchen.

The portafilter is a naked one from eBay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LELIT-58mm-Bottomless-Naked-Portafilter-Espresso-Handle-Triple-Shot-21g-Basket-/282202377751?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

The magnetic dosing ring is from Amazon :

Coffee Dosing Ring,AIEVE 58mm Universal Aluminum Portafilter Dosing Funnel for Espresso Coffee Machine Brewing Bowl Coffee Powder (Silver) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0832D38WT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_QT9Q3M16BYBYJBV4QXSX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

You loosen the cross head screw on the fork and move it so it gives you the most space - see the close up picture above.

I can see yours is at the default position they come in - about middle.

I bought a cheap one similar to yours and quite a bit of coffee tends to stick to the funnel. Probably due to static. Tempted to go for the wooden one on Etsy, looks really nice. Just curious as to whether it'll hold hands-free when docked onto the grinder and if any coffee tends to stick to it as well (probably less than on metal, I imagine)?
