Smart Grinder Pro not grinding as fine as usual

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have had my Smart Grinder Pro for about a year (perhaps a little over) and I use it mostly for espresso on my Gaggia Classic.

Over the last few months I have started to realise that it simply isn’t grinding as fine as it used to. I generally only use Extract coffee beans which are pretty consistent in terms of dialling in and 6 months ago I would grind at the 13 setting with excellent results and now I need to grind at 10 to get the same results.

For months, I have been getting crazy channeling and I couldn’t figure out why! Now that is fixed buy grinding at 10, but it’s left me wondering if I should be changing the internal burr setting to compensate? On top of this, has any one experienced a similar thing? Is it normal to need to adjust the internal burr setting after a year of use?

Graham

Making espresso isn't fire-n'-forget.

How do you know the beans are consistant? The Earth isn't consistent, seasons are not consistent, mother nature which grows the beans isn't consistent, the roasters are deffo not consistant, water isn't consistent, Machines wear, nothing lasts for ever, nothing stays the same Entropy will win in the end.
