Craft House Coffee El Muro 30%off this weekend

Thanks NPC - I hope it's good, we just ordered 2KG! I can confirm the code works. We normally buy from RAVE but they just ran out of their superb China Lafu #4 and this looks like it might be a nice change....

i bought some of this last time it was discounted, couldn't stand it and gave it away!  not my usual CHC experience, I very much like their coffees, so I think it was my mood or taste preference at the time.

Interesting. Which brew methods did you try?

Really surprised to read this, I've had a few kilos of it in the past and I don't regard it as anything but a typical Colombian with a light berry/treacle pudding profile, very nice as an espresso and pairs well with milk but nothing stand out or offensive that I could imagine someone having a big reaction to!

dont get me wrong, I rate CHC, I think I dove in too early post roast.  Personally I was getting a very smoky taste which put me off.  I should have let it rest further and tried more but I was impatient for some reason I can't remember.

not a reflection on CHC at all I am repeat customer of them and they are high quality imo.  As I say it was down to my perception and personal experience / preference.  I just did not like this one, when I tried it and I should have been more patient.

Ah, no I totally get what you mean. That smokey flavour is there, I remember it from my first attempts dialling in. Given a few extra days rest and some dialling in it goes away and isn't a charctertistic of the bean.

  • 4 weeks later...

Well I've just had my first cup of this in a V60 and really enjoyed it. 3 1/2 weeks post roast.

It's a really distinctive and slightly unusual flavour. I think what you guys interpret as smoky, Crafthouse have noted as treacle. I would have said dark treacle or more like dark ale. I can see why it divides opinion, the profile would definitely be a bit 'dark' for some in a pour over. It's low on acidity and definitely on the darker side of medium in my book. A 'medium-dark' I'd call it. It's not a fruit bomb or tropical in any way but a much more traditional caramelly type.

Only 1 mug so far so I'm looking forward to playing around with it some more. Regardless of preference it's undoubtedly a high quality coffee. I'd recommend it but probably advise on a 250g bag as it may not appeal to all. I'm impressed anyway!
