Coffee tasting app

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've been a very long time lurker on this forum but generally don't post very much. I actually own a micro-roastery in Kent specialising in high scoring coffee and we have just released an app that I think some people here may find useful. It allows you to input your aroma and flavour descriptors of our coffee then compare with other app users as well as a coffee pros.

I am actually not quite sure what the rules are regarding this kind of thing so I will refrain from giving any specifics unless someone call tell me it's ok to do so?

Ok cool, I'll edit the original post and put here too. If it gets removed then I do understand, don't want to be seen as a spammer in any way.

My roastery is Eighty Seven Plus, and you can view/download the app on this page.

For now it only works with our coffee, although if the app is well received I think I may open up to different roasters across Europe too.

I think the app is a great idea but needs to gain some traction. IMO its not really worth using at the moment since you only offer 4 coffees (3 of which I have tried and are great) but once you either expand your selection or allow other roasters to use the platform it will be great.

Where should we give feedback? Ive had a few issues that I'm sure won't take long to fix

Agree. That app looks great but I won't be using it as it's scope is too narrow currently. If it starts catering for more coffees or allows users manually input a coffee then I'd be all over it. Would likely pay for it if I could manually input my own coffees, even if that exists as an offline database for my own reference

Hi Toby! Yes, I understand its limitations currently, am thinking of a new model actually which I will elaborate below. In the meantime what are the issues you've found? Would love to hear them.

I agree, scope is narrow right now. I have an idea for a second version of this app, likely a rebrand in fact and a new business model.

I'd like to get roasters from all over Europe to sell coffee via my website (a new coffee marketplace), and deliver direct to the customer. All of that coffee can then be available on the app I have developed. We'd also then have a system where the crowd-sourced tasting notes would be available on the site, updated automatically daily. This way people who have no interest in the app itself but want to find coffee to their tastes can use this data to help them find new coffee.

This would mean we have many many coffees on the app, which would remain free at the user end.

Does this sound like something that would interest you?

Sounds like a fab idea. I'm on android and the few issues I've had have been very minor.

One is that the password box seems to autocapitalise which could be frustrating for some. Don't know if anyone else has had this issue though - it may just be my device.

Another is letting you modify reviews. If I review something after trying it in a v60 then discover some new notes when pulling shots then it would be nice to have the option to add them.

I think the app has some great potential though and wish you luck in hopefully expanding it.

Thanks Toby! I'll check out those password box issues for sure. As for the re-reviewing, you're the second person to mention that to me already. It's definitely a feature we wanted to have but had to eliminate in the end for budgeting reasons. Hopefully if there is a V 2.0 we can get it added in :)
