I drink straight when dialling in, and then most of them are used to make a small flat white. I much prefer black coffee to be filtered, and for me part of the joy of home espresso is getting to have those "cafe quality" (heh) drinks with properly textured milk.

My split is 75% v60, 25% espresso based.

I do mostly Americanos for me and flat whites for her.

I currently prefer the richness of a short Americano over a brewed coffee.

I don't know if i like Espresso or not!

Stir, let it cool down and drink. I sometimes will pull a flat white (150ml cup with 45-54g of espresso) in the mornings, but I probably drink 60-80% straight espresso. Depends on the bean, preference and rustiness of my latte art skills.

Between two of us, we’re currently getting  through about 5x15g doubles a day, three of which go into cappuccinos or lattes with the balance being straight espresso. On top of this, I’ll usually get through another 3x16g V60s.

That is an amazing bean... on of my Black Cat favourites

Been drinking it as a ristretto and really enjoying it.

Sorry this is veering away from the topic, but how do you make your ristretto as I would like to try one?

Hi @Emily, I won’t go into detail as I don’t want to take this off topic. Lots of stuff online about it. I’ve been trying to recreate short shots similar to what I’ve had in Italy. I grind finer and extract 16 -18g out for 16g in

I usually take a small sip of the espresso (to see if I can discern any tasting qualities) before adding steamed milk to make a flat white/latte. Sometimes, if I'm feeling brave, I'll use a smaller cup so the milk doesn't drown out the espresso so much!

If it's an 'interesting' bean, I'll try to dial in a straight espresso until I get it right and drinks shots. Once dialled in for that bean, I'll try it with a flat white or latte to see if it's suitable/good. I have additional go-to beans for lattes/flat whites.

If only my caffeine tolerance would allow that. I only have about four opportunities to tinker with the shot in a day, before the caffeine buzz will affect me to the point of not being able to get to sleep easily. Wish it were different, but it’s been this way for as long as I can remember. At the risk of derailing the thread, my taste buds also seem to taste soap every time I have coriander, so I’m not sure what that says about my taste perceptions for espresso.

I only do one double shot per day. Soap for coriander is very common (me too). It's only the leaves though, the seeds are a completely different taste.

Like many of you, I tend to taste my espresso whilst dialing in and then about 45g of espresso into a 150ml flat white cup. We're non-milk here though so Oatly Barista rather than cow juice!

Mostly flat white, full fat organic grass fed milk.  Occasional espresso. Tried non dairy milks, Oatly being the best, but still tasted like porridge for a while until your taste buds adjust
