Silicone Grease

Recommended Posts

I need to get some grease for Mara.  I'm aware Molycote 111 seems to be preferred by a lot of people on here -but it seems quite a pig to find for reasonable money.  The cheapest I can find a tube atm is here:

https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/lubricants-and-chemicals/greases/111-greases/f/9597
...but there's nothing else I need from them, so a fiver for postage, and it brings me to this territory

I see BB sell this stuff:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Plumbers-Silicone-Grease-60ml-For-ORings-Gas-Taps-Valves/201339484671
...which is a bit cheaper

Just wondering if anyone uses that second one and if it's any good - or whether anyone knows of a reasonably priced supplier of Moly for Mara

Cheers - I think that's the same as that last ebay link I put up.  Quite a bit cheaper than the Moly

Actually, THAT is what BB sell, I believe.  I found the company, went on their own site, then followed through to ebay (since you have to buy in quantities of 50x 30ml directly!!!)

Oh yeah! 50x30ml makes the molycote tube look a bit frugal

Yeah, figured I didn't need all that much! 😄

This looks like a cheaper version still

I got 2 tubes of molycote to get free delivery. Think it was about a tenner a tube. Otherwise delivery was 7 or 8 quid haha.

If you want the other tube I don't mind sending it to you for a tenner or so plus postage? Can't imagine it'll cost a lot to send... A quid or 2 max. Up to you!

I’ve been using the silicone grease from BB, bought in 2015.... yeah, it lasts a while. I still have about 1/2 tube left, and Lizzy nowdoesn’t need any. But it’s good to have around, for other things like.... Tamya racing RC cars? Thermostatic shower valves.... 👍 etc...

Thank @jaffro.  That's not what I was angling after when I wrote this thread - but if you're willing to do it for a tenner inc postage, i'll gladly take it from you - as that's then the same as this one:

Hi @stockportman yeah no problem. If you'd rather get something else that's totally cool, just thought I'd offer! No pressure.

I can sort it out after the weekend and we can work out delivery details etc if you want?

For clarity it's this one. Only 100g, but considering how little I need to re-lube an e61 cam or the thread on my niche one tube will probably last me about 5 years haha. If others work out cheaper then no worries, I'll just keep the second as a backup!

Hi @jaffro, sorry for the delay.  i've not been on here for a few days.

I'll take you up on that offer - much appreciated.  I'll DM you to sort out details

In the meantime, for anyone else who's looking for silicone grease, here's what BB sell, but direct from the manufacturer
