Flour - UK

Recommended Posts

Any ideas what the hell is going on? Has everyone been watching too much GBBO or are most bakeries doing way-over-the-top bulk buying?

There seems to be absolutely no flour anywhere, checked loads of online shops yesterday, everything is gone, even flour mills are no longer taking in orders as they are overwhelmed. What the hell?

I too have been struggling. It seems that everyone wants to take up baking during lockdown or they're just so stupid that they think they won't be able to go out and buy bread!

I placed an order with an online retailer a week and a half ago and still no sign of it. If it helps I had some luck in my local Sainsbury's yesterday. Need to go to the shops in the morning if you want things like flour and soap

It actually wouldn't be too bad if supermarkets had very little and you could still buy online, but that's not the case. There's huge flour mills which are closing their webstores as there's too much demand. WTAF?

The whole panic buying situation in the UK as absolutely ridiculous as there's no shortages of anything. Italy is in full lockdown and you can easily buy everything, same in Poland and most likely other countries. FFS.

Never underestimate how thick thick people are.

Turns out those who have only ever cooked potato smileys are actually artisan bakers.

Idiots all of them.

I've found strong white flour in both Lidl and Asda recently in Swindon - though it's definitely not easy.  Same goes for yeast - also like rocking horse.

Lots of everything: machines, grinders, roaster, beans, tampers, baskets, blah, blah

However - Too much is never enough!

This. Infuriating isn't it. It will all sit in cupboards and go out of date or be eaten by weevils

Online shopping accounts for 7% of UK groceries. Forget them and go out. I appreciate I am time rich but I bake a lot and yesterday B & M Bargains had shelves of self raising when Aldi had none and I forget where I bought my bread flour from last week, but it will certainly be used

Facing same issue in London. Absolutely no flour whatsoever in any of the 4 shops we have in Greenwich. Bought my last bag of basic plain from a corner shop. Forget about strong white or wholemeal.

Greenlands had it, and the cheese shop up royal hill has flour. The Italian deli up trafalgar rd probably has it too.
