NFC shipping

Recommended Posts

What if I order 10? As Niche said we would only have to pay for the shipping I assume I will get 10 for £8.

then I could distribute via Royal Mail to other owners just for the costs of the shipping.

Website says one each only. And you absolutely wouldn't get 10 for £8, and that's obvious.

So which way is the hole meant to go once fitted?

Does it not matter?

Can only go one way. Have the print side up!

I actually filled in 2 before I noticed I should only order 1. (My daughter who lives very close by me also has a Niche). The total went to €18,82 or something like that before I reset the counter to 1.

I think folks have some quaint idea of an old lady clicking refresh on her pc, printing off an address label from a data base, sticking the label onto an envelope, popping in the NFC, then licking the stamp and closing the envelope...........times several thousand...........if you but a £1 seal from Londinium and many other companies the postage is a similar price........am I reckless in my approach r are there many tightwads on here

The whole thing is designed to be after sales service for existing customers to allow them to upgrade their grinder with a now standard part which wasn’t part of the product at the time they purchased. The price of $9.99 includes shipping and by putting a price on the disk and applying free shipping rather than making the disk available for free and applying shipping cost they avoid people ordering multiple items. I can’t tell you if the shipping is exactly 8£ but I don’t understand people getting upset about it. They could have just as well put a price on the disk and charged for shipping.

If you buy a phone and half a year later the manufacturer decides to include a case you wouldn’t expect them to send you one for free just because it’s standard now, or would you?

I think the point was that it was told that it would be sent free of charge with just shipping. I would query as to why it is advertised in dollars (is this where the part is being shipped from?), which could explain the shipping costs. If so, why would it not be distributed in the UK where the price of a stamp is a couple of quid as opposed to £8 (which is a bit different to £2).

I'd also query whether this is a true reflection on cost. This part will likely cost pence to make (probably about 30-40p), and is open to the general public seemingly - even those without a Niche. What is the point in that as opposed to sending a blanket email out with a link to their current indiegogo with a separate option of "NFC Disk only" for a couple of quid, instead of opening an online store for it... Is it a serviceable part?

It is sent from Hong Kong or China not 100% sure which one of the two. So shipping will likely be a bit more expensive than domestic.

The site is called Niche Spares so maybe it’ll also serve as a shop for any other spares parts you could need to service your Niche.

It's not really about pop corning....I don't know why people keep focussing on this as it's really one of least important benefits of  the disk..

I've been looking forward to getting an NFC disc, however I was disappointed to see the price of $9.99, when I am sure I had seen a price of £3.00 (or was that just wishful thinking). We have been told that we will only pay the cost of postage for the item, surely Niche should be importing these and then sending them out from the UK.

No, you don’t need it but I would get one. What it does is regulate the flow of beans into the burrs which should give a more consistant grind whilst grinding. You need to dial in 4 notches finer with the disc so it’s having some effect. For me the change in flow would be the biggest benefit as I, like you, am not too bothered about popcorning.

Unrealistic expectations matey......Niche is a design office not a manufacturing base. To send out several thousand discs is a mammoth operation, hence the outsourcing. China/Hong Kong are specialists at this. Niche always said they would send the discs out for P & P, and they are. Crickey, is anyone really suggesting they cannot faford less than a tenner to improve their machine. If the answer is no, then do not worry about it, but stop the flipping snowflake moaning!

Sounded like a complaint to me so easy to understand the confusion 🙄

I don't get the complaints. You pay for shipping from china, simple. They sell their grinders all over the world why should they import the discs to the UK and then distribute them free of charge? They shouldn't is the answer. People somehow feel entitled to free things but the reality is Niche have made something available to purchase for cost of shipping when they really didn't have to. They could have just bundled it in with all grinders being produced now and called them Niche v1.2 and left everyone else to 3d print their own.

I've just ordered 😊

I paid in USD with a travel credit card rather than using the PayPal exchange rate and it saved about 50p if anyone particularly cares (£7.98 rather than £8.48 I think? Somewhere around that).

While it's always nice to have things cheap or free, it's £8 in relation to a £500 grinder (depending when you bought it), so I can't say I'm overly concerned. Hasn't broken the bank!

My friend printed me one on Sunday and it works great, not sure I want to pay $10 to have the logo on it.

And what’s the cost of your disk if you factor in the cost of the 3D printer, material and time spent on making it? Nothing is free...

No that’s kind of obvious.

I mean the hole that allows the beans into the burrs. The Niche is angled so does the hole sit at 12, 3, 6, 9 or does it not matter.

Just not sure with the angle of hole position is important or wherever it lands once tightened on. It performs the same.
