Britain isn't a country.

It wasn't always an island (well the Great part at least), the first people in the British Isles walked here...from, guess where? ?

How very dare you sir!  Probably went from Engerland to the rest of the world!  At least that's what Al Murray, the Pub Landlord would say ?

Ha remainer.....WRONG. Great Britain was created in 1707 by the Act of Union, so we have only been British a relatively short amount of time, and if we had stayed in the EU, before long we would become European as the bureaucrats erase all national identity before Big Brother eventually takes over

What's the difference between a civil servant and a bureaucrat ? ;) Must admit in one case the highly paid probably went to certain schools and may well be knighted were as both are unlikely to happen to apply to the other type.

The Act of Union ? Scottish and Welsh independence, Cornwall once but not many. Fact is everybody wants to get out of everything.

Serious question!

Can anyone name a Project Fear threat that has turned out to be correct......in fact, why don't we start naming a few of the funnier ones

People with wooden legs will fall over and not be able to walk as a result of Brexit causing the relevant woodworm treatment to no longer be available through the Port of Calais

Probably not as we haven’t really left yet. It’s a bit like asking if anyone can point to a Brexit promise that has been or even has the potential of being met.

That's about the size of it. Come back in ten years and let's do an analysis. Nobody will be more delighted than me if all of the fears turned out to be unfounded. It will be the epitome of a win-win situation.

LOL Like many things it isn't straight forwards and even worse than that in some ways. Politicians like numbers that sound good so economics can get "modified" to suite. Growth for instance can just be inflation, Financial easing turns into another from of currency devaluation. It isn't that hard to find how things are calculated and the variations. To go any further start with this bloke and get  "confused" about the various other people involved in the area and their ideas.

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/k/keynesianeconomics.asp

One thing that bloke is reckoned to have said is don't worry about imports as the exporters will finish up with lots of money and will invest where they sell. ;) That seems to work after a fashion. It's an example of why this area changes - can't do anything about the imports so they can't be considered.

Forgot - Project Fear is an excellent use of words intended to influence people. Fact really, no one can know what the outcome will be.

We are seeing this wrong! I did not ask for forecasts that might be good. I am thinking about for example, George Osborne telling us if we even considered Leaving he would immediately have to have a budget increasing taxes, needing to raise money for the hundreds of thousands who would immediately be on the dole........there were daily forecasts which hinged around the possibility of leaving, rather than forecasting what might happen in 10 years time.

Can the more creative of you chime in!

@filthynines glass half full or half empty. Whether you think you can or whether you think you cannot, you are probably right anyway! The world was built on freeptrade......all socialism does allegedly, is re-distribute the wealth there have built up!

An exaggeration of what he actually said.

Be interesting to see if there are any BE interest rate changes and more financial easing in the very near future.

Most of it all depends on stage 2 of  Brexit - actually being out. A lot of that depends on the eventual deal. DaveC may be entirely correct on that. I feel that is a bit Alice in Wonderland but could be correct and long term might cause the EU to go back to being a common market.

Me personally - I live here so have a slight interest in the why's and wherefores of how we are governed. Some don't give 2 tosses. :) No comment on that.

Well for me, voting in would have benefited me greatly from a personal perspective but I felt wasn't good for my kids prospects or the nation as a whole.....so I voted out. Since that vote more than 3.5 years ago I have been shocked by the attempts to subvert and abuse the democratic process, people who voted remain not accepting the result and the 3.5 years of constant project fear peddling untruths to us all. The quiet majority that voted out has had to put up with abuse, violence derision and accusations of racism because we apparently didn't know what we were doing and needed smarter people than us to rescue us.

I respect the fact that we all have a vote and that vote was made...it's a pity more people didn't respect it. Instead this sort of view (and a lot worse) was given huge amounts of airtime to try and persuade us of the error of our ways.

And let's never forget these people even if they forget democracy...how much confidence they have in the UK and the 17.2 million voters (who don't matter in their eyes).

Well if we look at a few facts...

1. The leave campaign was also based largely on lies.

2. The leave campaign was supported by an overtly racist group of parties who were pushing racist policies.

3. Some of those policies were not even driven by the EU, asylum obligations etc.

4. The quite minority we’re voting alongside a lot of overtly racist people.

With those four facts alone what do expect people to think?
