First impressions....

Recommended Posts

So, I've been loitering on this site for a month or two, both prior to and since buying my first coffee machine.

It's been a bit of a rollercoaster journey so far, who'd have thought there was so much to learn?!

Initially I became bogged down with all the science and do's and don't and became somewhat disheartened when I got my Sage Barista Express. I didn't want to throw money down the drain with expensive beans so I thought I'd cheat with a nice bag from Waitrose and whilst it didn't taste horrendous I wasn't enthralled. Anyway, I decided to get some better beans and upgraded to Rave's signature blend and their Fudge blend. I have no doubt there's better quality coffee etc but I was looking for a happy medium. I can only say what a difference a bean makes! I've read it 100's of times on here but crikey, my first coffee was a vast improvement and by the 3rd I think I've pretty much nailed it (compared with the Waitrose bean and as much as a newbie can nail it).

So yes, a real rollercoaster, a very disheartening start not only with the machine and my technique but also getting bogged down with all the science on here. I have however since accepted that every cup won't be perfect, I still have a whole heap to learn but ultimately I'm sitting down with a lovely cup of coffee. I'm more than happy to accept that it'll take time to learn the art of pulling a perfect cup but in the mean time I'll enjoy a few nice cups of coffee along the way.

This is my first post by the way so be gentle with me!

Glad you're enjoying it.

If you feel happy and satisfied about your coffee then run away now, else you will become one of us, the upgrade path is a slippery and expensive slope :p

Btw Rave coffee is very good, they have some great quality beans.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for your all comments.

Yes I can see how easily it is to carried away. I think I’ll just try and keep reading the lighter subject matter for a bit and maybe dip my toe in the hardcore stuff a bit later into my journey.
