Hello from the isle of man

Recommended Posts

Some time lurker and longer term caffeine addict. I am in a better place to explore my hobby, but I know from my travails with wine that it won't be cheap. I intend to go slow, but I am sure most of you said that at one time...

Geography limits what I can get day to day, but when I lived in England I frequented speciality stores whenever I could. Now I rely on mail order; currently considering canceling a premium pact order, but familiar with hasbean and a few others.

Set up is cheap and cheerful. Multiple cafetiers, a v60, and an aeropress. I have a cheap hand grinder that is not long for this world. I also have a wilfa svart on the way as I decided I couldn't justify my preferred choice of a lido 3 until I had something else to make coffee with.

Longer term my dream setup is probably hand ground and lever machine because I am that way inclined. Before I gave up smoking I had a pipe for a while because the ceremony and preparation was all part of the experience.

Next step? I know grinder first and all that....but the svart is only an in between measure to go with the aeropress. I am not sure if I go the classic route, or start with a europiccola (or equivalent). Once I have a machine that warrants an investment I will consider my options.

I am not opposed to used, and I am reasonably handy. Modding and mending appeals.

Finally, I take mine black and unsweetened. I drink Americano about 90-95% of the time and espresso/ristretto the rest. When I go to a city with coffee I like this changes to about 50/50.

And that is my intro. Hi.

.....terribly. I don't remember one as wet as this and I have lived here for 30+ years. I feel awful for all those who have spent a fortune on what has so far been a washout.

Still, senior is set to be dry. National holiday as well.

That’s such a shame @Drl Out of interest are you IoM born and bred? I have a thread here about my connection:
