Looking to purchase a decent dosing cup for my Ek, been looking at the Artisan Smith ones, which seem to do the job, but bit of a faff coming from Australia and are made to order apparently, according to their website, with a 2-3 week wait.

Is there anything else out there which is worth a look?

Some cocoa shakers have a small enough diameter to fit in a basket (look just like a niche cup funnily enough). Have see a pic with a wine measure being used too.

Cocktail shakers etc, Not sure what makes that Aussie Cup " precision " or why it needs to be made to order. I use to use a old small milk steaming jug at one point :)

Wine tumblers do work as well, but they do have a welded bottom which can be difficult to clean. I’ve been using a mini cocktail shaker bottom which does work wonders.

I keep meaning to get an Acaia one, but there’s *something* that stops me from getting one. I wonder what!

If its the same Acaia as the scales, I can just imagine what's stopping you..

I will check it out though, that's what the excitement of new kit does to you!

If only niche would sell their cups separately (in various sizes so it fits more machines), we'd all be laughing.

Well, Acaia have nailed with their scales! I did try the knock off Felicita ones and it was a disaster for the money I paid (£140).

I am sure the dosing cup is just as nice, but I haven't figured out where to buy it from.

Actually, it looks pretty good..

£44.00 from Espresso solutions,  though let's be honest, it's a bloody lot for a cup!

Let me know when you get one so I don’t need to!

I did see it live in Glasgow Coffee Festival, I believe at Glen Lyon stand. I foolishly forgot about it when chatting away - I’m sure I could have had a closer look at it.

Edit:

Seen this? https://rhinocoffeegear.com/rhino-coffee-gear-dosing-cup.html#

Available on Coffee Hit, but I dislike the fact that it's a copy of Acaia's cup (1st gen), e.g.: https://baristatechnology.com.au/products/acaia-portafilter-dosing-cup. Half the weight of Acaia one as well...

They’ve been saying that they’ll be selling them in “near future” since December - not everyone is as patient!

How about a 58x1.0mm steel tube and a cap?
Maybe I should open a side business to my side business...

Well I coughed up a whopping £44.00 and I have a very nice Acaia dosing cup in my possession, its a lovely product, is it worth £44.00?

Probably not, however it will be the only dosing cup I will buy, I'm telling myself I saved on the Acaia scales by shopping about , so it's cost £10 ish...

A complete bargain!

However, the scales are yet to arrive..

Did you get it from espresso solutions?

Looking forward to your user experience!

Yes, I did, arrived promptly, given it a few test runs on the EK, no static, it's the latest version with a continual lip, so you have to use the lever to release it, no snatching it out with the cut out version. But that's fine..

Thanks. I take it does fit the 58mm basket when you invert the cup?

Yeah, all fits, just measured it with the vernier gauge and its exactly 58mm, nice well manufactured product.
