Cold Brew Confusion

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've recently purchased and am awaiting delivery of a 1 gallon coffeesock kit. Having settled on that after deciding it would be easiest for me to get into for filtering, and eventually wanting to make enough for a small nitro setup I have planned.

I'm a super newbie when it comes to coffee having only owned a Keurig prior to this. So when I search through the posts here and see ratios I'm getting confused. If a gallon is 128 ounces, and a typical bag of beans is 12 ounces if I use a bag per batch am I using a ratio of 1:10 for coffee to water roughly? Or am I missing something?

Can someone give me an example for my gallon batches. Like if I wanted to make a concentrate what ratio would that be? What would that come out to in terms of ounces of coffee to ounces of water?

I also know I eventually want to get a grinder but I can't justify it this early in the game. I'll probably end up just using wherever I pick it ups grinder for a bit until i decide if this is for me.

Thank you all in advance

I have some in the fridge from yesterday, I went for the 4:1 ratio myself (4 part water to 1 part coffee). I have used this in the past to make a concentrate in a mason jar and it worked really well! You'll know after your first batch if you should change your ratios or not, all down to personal preference :)
