Is it OK to give the group head a burst of steam after frothing?

Recommended Posts

Recently I've got into the habit of pressing the Pour button on my Gaggia Baby (older version) just after frothing. This sends a burst of steam through the group head. Seems to me this helps clean the shower screen.

Is this recommended or what?

I do the same with my classic, as you say it seems to help with cleaning the shower screen.

It's how I get my tebe back down to temp after steaming. Has the added benefit of regilling the boiler too.

It is recommended and should be done as you are emptying the boiler of water during the steam process.

You need to refill the boiler by running the pump for several seconds and let water come out of the steam wand or out of the grouphead.

I use a short (5 to 8 secs) burst of steam to clean the grouphead after steaming. I refill the boiler by making hot water through the steam wand and to bring the boiler temp down to brew temp as set by PID.
