Please can someone weigh one for me - new in the plastic wrap. I think I have been sold some fakes. I haven’t got any of my last batch to compare them too andit seems no one here bothers filtering! I can get some on Monday but want to know now.

Thanks :)

They changed the shape of the cartridge (upper section) recently.

Do you have a picture of the packaging? That's usually the best for spotting fakes (I got sent some fake electric toothbrush heads and comparing the packaging to the real deal was the only way to notice)

Yes, same as your ashcroc, the new shape. The water smells funny when I lift the lid and poke my nose in. I can not recall that before. And the kettle has some scale where the steam escapes - this usually happens in week 4 of past filters, not in 5 days if a new filter. The water seems to drop through differently too. And it tastes different!!

Apart from that . . . !

Can't say as I've noticed a smell but then again, I'm not one for sticking my nose in kettles. I remember it pouring through a bit quicker than the old ones though & also get a bit of scale around the lid. Don't think I'd be surprised to find out they changed the innards of the cartridge at the same time as the outside butit seems to do it's job for the most part where it counts.

Am considering trying the BWT MG2 cartridge when my stock runs out just to see if it's any better.

I don't use it in the kettle but I find the BWT has far superior taste for drinking water.

Haven't heard of BWT, will give it a go. Bit annoying that they're more expensive here in Germany than in the UK but then again I save thousands on rent, guess it'll balance out :p

Yeah i found that out after a Google, but yeah thought that just a few hours this way might make them cheaper here than the UK but apparently not :p

Has anyone tried using the Black & Blum reactivated charcoal sticks instead of Brita? You have to leave your jug of water for 4-8 hours but it's the same 'technology' and avoids all the plastic wasted from spent cartridges. Would also work out a lot cheaper as each stick does a litre of water x 6 months for £5.50 (if you buy a box of 4). They get good reviews on Amazon for what it's worth.

That won't act as a filter, it (should) remove the yucky chlorine water taste though. The reason some use brita/bwt is to reduce bicarbonates and things that will scale up your kettle, another is to remove heavy metal traces - neither of which a charcoal stick will do.

Depends on what you're looking for as to whether it's worth it or not.
