a motor cover plate for Royal

Recommended Posts

1mm aluminium sheet can be cut with most saws ( although a fine hacksaw is much easier) - you can even sand the edges flat (although a metal file helps)

buy an offcut big enough off fleabay

and become a 'Fabricator'

Top hat / tie are optional

Cheers jimbojohn55. Will try that. Looks to be under £5. Is the fudge funnel cut out as a U shape or bent somehow like the oem above. How did you fix it in place as I currently use sticky pads for the card.

This is mine on my Major.

The bottom of the plate on mine is held in with 2 screws.

I used the official Mazzer Major motor plate on mine.

Thanks. I followed this a year ago and have forgotten about the plate upgrade.

Do you happen to remember if the major plate has the same dimensions as the Royal?

I think it is as the doser is the same size - I would do a funnel first then check with a cardboard template.

Yep. Just checked 96mm and max of 120mm. I guess height is dependent on the funnel position.

Would my dremmel cut the curve on 1mm aluminium?

Edit what you might have to do is cut a series of straight lines and then use a dremil metal file or sanding drum to file out to the final curve

I think I might ask the powder coaters who are doing the Royal case to do this in black gloss to match too.

Just ordered 1mm 120mm 96mm pre cut for £1.50 delivered. Bargain!

It’s fine. The missed my comment and sent a stock 125mm2 so had to cut both ends and the curve. It’s harder to do to make straight with such small amounts to cut off. So I am thinking of ordering some more and ensuring they cut it to order with a proper cutter.

Any comments if should get it done black with the case or keep it silver like the funnel, neck and forks.

It looks good. I'm browsing possibility to order stainless steel plate, as well. But probably it would be not easy to cut to size with Dremel machine?!

I used a dremel. It’s fine for the funnel. I think the outside edges are better precut or done properly. I have asked the seller if can cut 96 x 120mm for me to have a second attempt.

So I got the eBay seller to cut 96mm x 118mm for £2.50 delivered for new piece of aluminium.

Looks better, recommend to anyone with an octopus funnel if not done so.

Anyone recommend doing the plate the same colour as the chassis. I am going with powder coating gloss black. In two minds about leaving the plate chrome looking to match the funnel.

If anyone wants my old aluminium back plate pre-cut (not as tidy as professional), happy to send on. Here are the dimensions for future reference too.
