EK Alignment doing my head in..... Help!

Recommended Posts

So...

After receiving Frank's alignment tool in the post from @Xpenno I though I'd give it a go this weekend...

I managed to get the fixed burr to this before losing the will to live..

Considering it was out by at least 10+ on the scale, I think I did a good job.

Next was the other burrs. I took out the tin foil I'd put under from my own trials in aligning them and managed to attach the micrometer to the side of the chamber (via the hole for the front plate.) fitted the carrier reversed obviously (with a paper shim to protect the fixed burr.

This worked quite well, and I managed to shim the burr carrier to an extent so it was only a few microns out (or so).

When I put the EK back together, the alignment was worse than I managed using my own method of calibration and tin foil shims. It's pissing out shots at 2 on the scale (these are Turkish burrs and espresso is around 3 to 4). The burrs chatter worse now when touching than before, and I'm glad I still have the Versalab so make shots with.

S far I've spent Most of Saturday afternoon and part of Sunday morning/afternoon trying to align them, and I'm now fed up and pee'd off.... It must have been a Friday afternoon grinder as the burr chamber is out of alignment with the motor, and the front burr carrier doesn't even look straight. I've had the burrs out more times than a bookies pencil.

Is there anyone close by that can have a look as two heads are better than one? (I'm near Goole).

@The Systemic Kid maybe if you're out this way at anytime?

Input: 'Terranovered’ Versalab M3 + Mahlkonig EK43 Turkish burrs + Niche
