So the new Mignons are really good at anti clumping....

Recommended Posts

has anyone figured out how to mod their mk2 or older for the same effect?

They look, from the outside, pretty similar / identical in the way the coffee is despensed so I am guessing there is some kind of voodery in the chute to stop clumping?

The clumping on mine is annoying when I go too fine. Having dyspraxia means I end up spilling coffee everywhere trying to stir it with a cocktail stick...

Well, there is a little clump crusher in the newer Mignon models that looks quite similar to this: https://www.bellabarista.co.uk/espresso-grinders/eureka-zenith-olympus-clump-crusher.html

Actually, here is how it looks like inside the Eureka Mignon Silenzio (the clump crusher is the two zig-zag pieces of metal at the chute), pretty self-explanatory as to how it works. When the ground coffee gets expelled from the burrs, it hits the clump crusher, becoming more dispersed in the process.

These are available as spares but anyone figured out a way to fit them on the Mignon MK2?

Assuming there's a suitable mounting point, you'd need to drill & tap a hole for the screw.
Considering a quick stir breaks up the clumps, I've never been too bothered by them. Might be a different matter if I ground straight into the of but I change beans too often to bother with the timer.

Makes sense. Yeah I wouldn't want to drill into at all! Yeah I was thinking of getting a metal grounds bin (will reduce static) that fits snug into the 58mm portafilter like the one from niche. Any suggestions or links?

Height is a bit of an issue due to the feet unfortunately. The Rhino dosing cup works ok if you hold it but is unfortunately about 20mm too tall to fit on the pf stand (on it's lower setting) & about 5mm too tall for my preferred sitting on scales technique. I fear the niche cup will suffer the same fate so my search continues.

My Mignon clumps a bit with RAVE Signature but I put it in the PF and clump the whole thing before pulling the lever.
I’ve never seen it as a problem ~ should I??

I ordered one of these in the end, only about £3.60 and 68mm tall, so it might fit your set up?

OD is around 58mm so a pretty good fit in a portafilter basket and the ridge stops it dropping all the way to the bottom.

Thanks that may just be short enough & I'd feel alot more comfortable trimming it down a bit if it isn't.

Thank you for this idea. I remembered I have a small metal shaker for cocoa powder I don't use and, with moving the portafilla stand around, it fits nicely under the chute, pretty good fit in the basket too.

Top tip I reckon!
