Baking with espresso liquid or freshly ground coffee

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been looking for some good cakes/cookies/biscuits/etc recipes with either fresh espresso or freshly ground coffee. Most seem to have espresso powder or instant coffee. Any one got any suggestions for either recipes or how to adjust a recipe with espresso powder/ground coffee to espresso/ground coffee?

Thanks!

Mrs E just adds 1 or 2 single espressos to the recipe. "Adjust to taste".....

A slug of espresso can also give a meat gravy extra depth (got that tip while in Italy a few years ago)

It is also used in "red eye gravy from deep south USA"

The obvious one is Tiramasu. Use espresso to soak into the biscuit layer. It makes a tremendous difference!

There's a good sachertorte recipe in the Green and Blacks cookbook that calls for freshly ground coffee in the mix.

There's also an excellent coffee ice cream recipe in one of Simon Hopkinsons books that calls for whole beans

A really rich sweet / pudding is prunes simmered in a mix of espresso and brandy with muscovado sugar. This can be eaten hot or cold

Served with stiffly whipped double cream mixed with plain yoghurt then marbeled with muscavado sugar and ell chilled.:p:good:;)

Also very good Irish coffee cake , espresso + Irish whiskey. Left to steep, if you can leave it long enough.
