LSOL November - Drop Coffee [Stockholm]

Recommended Posts

Prior to this delivery I have been using around 15g however after reading this post I'll kickoff with a 19-20g dose tomorrow!!

I usually find I need to using 20g doses so I have enough range to grind for spro.

4th shot of the day 20g >60g 23% ext 1.9 3FE.

stone fruit acidity, towards apricot when hot, and all about peaches as it cools - WOW

You know what, as I mentioned yesterday, I took one box (I really like the box thing!) back to work this morning and waited maybe 30 minutes before the aeropress and feldgrind came out.

Given the roast colour I expected trauma turning the grinder (like the LSOL Sundlaug a few iterations ago). Actually there was none of that. Very clean beans though, minimal chaff.

Taste wise from just one brew, nothing massively acidic/harsh, despite the light roast. and without the earlier comments, fruit wise, I was thinking stone fruit too, but more plum than apricot/peach. I got 500g so plenty of time to change that opinion I guess.

For sure it is a pretty enlightening coffee, one that got me checking how much to buy direct from Drop.

Thanks again guys, I was already half convinced this roast style was good for me, after one drink I think that opinion has gone up a further notch.;)

I've gone from the coffee that needs the coarsest grind I've ever recorded (Bobolink) to the finest (Drop)! I'm still dialling in but keep going finer and it seems very demanding of good prep otherwise it wants to channel. (Obviously you always want the best prep you can, but after 1 day I'm finding this one fairly unforgiving). I also echo whoever it was who mentioned Ovaltine earlier - this is not a coffee for big milk drinks. I'm going to concentrate on getting espresso working and then give it a go in the Aeropress.

Be sure to save some for brewed as it makes a cracking pourover!

Mine arrived thank you! Lovely packaging. I did an aeropress at work - It made a bright refreshing brew. Yum.

Just attempted dialling in and can echo previous comments, I've had to tighten the grind on the Ceado to previously unknown territory!

Its Light and vibrant, however I'm going to tighten the grind more and see if I produce more Crema as there isn't much on the attempts I've just made!

I'm going to enjoy this one

having to up dose to 20g is because of how the EK grinds, you shouldn't need to up dose as much with the Ceado I would have thought, though 15g is a bit on the low side.

I'd give 18g a go maybe 1st.

that was me while dialing it in, I think it's a touch under extracted if you're getting ovaltine, try a bit finer :)

interestingly I'm not needing to go very fine with this on the EK at all, it's about in my normal range, I tend to go a lot finer for "dark roasts".

I'm actually in the same place as my beloved Foundry LSOL.

might try going a bit finer but suspect I'm bang on the money where I am.

Work, Aeropress -

This is a light roast. Handgrinder workout was notably less easy than say, Hasbean WBC.

First sips, stone fruit, bright - mug is cooling beside me as I type.

Currently without the EK, so slumming it with the Lido but man this is still really tasty as V60. Stone-fruit for sure.

Still awaiting mine to arrive. It's super cool to read everyone's experiences though. It's building the anticipation:)

My second cup of the day seemed to have a cooling effect that broadly went from Apricot -> Peaches, and the cup seemed sweeter and more mellow the cooler it got.

Acidic Apricot -> Sweet Tinned Peaches is what I have.

I haven't got the acidity nailed down any more than bright. This is very bright bean, but not sour or sharp in any way.

Thats all with the aeropress in work.

I might try the V60 when I get home.

Based on the Aeropress, and previous experience with Drop omniroasts, I expect the espresso be at least 'a challenge'.

Even with that Caveat, so far, so tasty.

Sorry about that, it's hard to keep on top of everyone's temporary addresses. Easy enough to get it off him/her?

Yes, no problem. Just confused them as to what had arrived for a while :-)

Bit late to the game, only just got round to trying them!

First kalita this morning, came through a little slow, but tasted amazing. Although I need to have a play to make it a bit stronger tasting. Think I'll try fewer pours and a touch finer to see what I can get. I was too tired to think too hard about tasting notes, but it was incredibly nice, really looking forward to playing with this one!

Care to share what recipes you are using to give me a start point to try at the weekend.

So far I have been using areopress seems smaller dose 13.5g vs 14 giving more balanced cup

I'm so out of practice with the Lido I don't think I'd be much help. I can coax some OK brews out of it, but everything seems to lack a bit of sweetness... but that's entirely down to my palate being used to EK brews.

Had a brew this morning, pretty coarse on the EK and setting 1 on the December...totally delicious. Brew time around 2:50

I'm definitely getting the taste descriptors that are on the website....no one else is though ;)

Espressos one and two and three on this were tough going for me.

Grinding with Ceado E37, to get a reasonable pour I was grinding as fine as I have ever done for espresso and updosing my 18g VST to 20 g.

The result, 20 -> 42 in 26 seconds and tbf, too acidic an espresso for my liking. Fruit notes were nary to be seen by me.

This is similar to the hassle I had with previous espresso attempts from Drop. Hassles similar enough for me to think that I may enjoy this one much more in various filter guises and,

taken all together this leads me to guess that this might be washed SL28, but grown in Central America and roasted very light.

Lets see how wrong I am :)
