pretty impressive, would never guess he was blind from watching that

Most people who meet him don't realise he is, until they look hard and see he has no eyes. Strange as it seems it's hard to notice on a black cat.

Dave,

Looks like you have a very special cat.

Back in July '17 we adopted two kittens from a rescue centre. As we own a flat on the top floor of an apartment building we were required to adopt kittens that have actually never been outside at all.

That struck us as very different from our past cat adoptions (usually a couple of years old and we had a lot of land with native bush at our New Zealand house).

But they have been a wonderful couple of additions to our family. Both are extremely affectionate, the boy to the point of jealousy - you show anyone else affection and he is rolling at your feet or crawling into your lap to get yours. I'm always sad when I hear of people who have standoffish cats... Most of ours have always been like puppy dogs - thee two certainly are... waiting by the door, following you around, playing with you, all of it. Only thing we can't do is take them out for a walk - which is a bit sad. One of our NZ cats we could take hiking up mountains on a lead.

Gratuitous kitten pick:

A neighbour's cat comes to visit mainly for food, not that she's really hungry it's just that power thing where she feels she controls our cat if she gets food here as well as him. Anyway, the cat's owner has been in hospital and is just back home, so I guess not very mobile. Yesterday I was outside cleaning patio furniture, I had the neighbour's cat sitting watching my every move seeming keen to get companionship whilst my own cat was curled up on the bed.

When I pick up my cat, he purrs but is always looking for and makes moves to get back down, a friend visits and picks the cat up, the cat just goes with it no struggle, not even if the friend's 6 yr old son picks up the cat.

I don't know whether it's our cat being standoffish, or just he doesn't like to socialise with his servants.

Did you fraternise with the neighbour’s cat? If so, and you smell of that cat, then that may well account for your cat being a bit standoffish.

We had a strict ‘no interlopers’ policy at our place. My male cat and I would hunt and chase down any ‘neighbours’ together - cornering then and hissing/bottlebrushing/howling until they sprinted off. Afterward we’d both stroll the perimeter with tails up and then settle in for a purrfest. I swear if he could have opened beer he would have - he loved a good battle.

I think you quoted the wrong post... quite sure I don’t have standoffish cats. Attention-seeking, yes, standoffish no.

I think they get jealous... we have two guinea pigs and Eddie knows they are not for eating, or playing with! My wife used to dump a piggie onto me with instructions to stroke it a lot. If Eddie then wanted to sit on me (which is his right)...he used to be a tad upset if there was a piggie on me and ignore me for around 5 or 6 hours, perhaps a day until he would forgive me. If I ever touched another cat. I am not sure if you have seen Simons cat, I have been a subscriber for a long time.

Quite right I was responding to @AndyDClements post. Your pair look decidedly pleased with themselves and completely settled. I do miss mine so much.

How did I miss a cat thread?! I have 2 of the little monst... Erm, I mean darlings.

First up is Kito, he's 3 years old. Then we have Mosi who is 12 years old but didn't get the memo and thinks he's still 2.

They are both Somalis (1 long haired and 1 short haired - I think you can probably work out which is which ;) ) and are indoor cats. Not safe here as I live near a busy road plus I live in a flat

Well, in cat world (and in terms of advantages in battles) height = power, so if he's on top of the door and you're not on something higher, I'd agree.

P.s. mine goes for the top of the kitchen cupboards, so even worse for me. I know my place.

One of mine used to love to sleep on my old, floor standing boiler. I got a new combi boiler last year which is wall mounted about 8 inches from the ceiling. I thought he'd lose his favourite spot but no - he can get up there and still sleep on the boiler. There's not room for him to stand up but he seems to have no trouble getting up and down.

Here is a picture of our two. Had them from the Cats Protection in August. Mother and Daughter with the mother being the fluffy one. No idea how we got them to pose like we did for this photo!

Current partner has an adorable cat called Fiona (or Fionosh, Fionka or other derivatives depending on her mood). She's a real softy and loves playing with hair bobbles, bits of string as well as waking us both up at 3am by walking all over us in bed and purring loudly..

Careful of that 'give me a belly rub' pose. It's a trap!
