Portafilter basket too full on my Leva, can't get shower screen out either

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I'm using the standard portafilter on my Expobar Leva.

The portafilter has never locked in a 6 o'clock... more like 7!

Never thought anymore about it until today.

Just moved onto a new bag of coffee and dosed 18g, locked into machine and it felt a bit tight... took the PF back out, and the tamped coffee is touching the shower screen.

I realise there should be a gap... is it 5p thickness or something?

I normally dose around 18g, and in the basket, the volume is the same as normal

I've tried to get the shower screen out, but can't and didn't want to force it... I think it's standard... gauze type.

How do I remove this... makes me wonder if gasket is incorrectly fitted or something?

Try two teaspoons grabbing on to the lip of the basket, they can be quite hard to initially remove but put some molykote on before replacing.

What's the point...it'll only change soon!

Well after 15 mins today... I still haven't got the screen out.

The ridges are very awkward to reach, as they seem to be located nearest the group head, which makes leverage very difficult.

Does the gasket hold in the shower screen or the screen hold to gasket?

Put the bowls of the upside down spoons into the indents for the portafilter ears...then you will get better purchase.

Have you tried it with the machine warm?

IIRC it helped for me the first time I took mine out but it was a struggle!

Since then Molycote and done regularly it comes out very easily.

The gasket will come out with the shower screen, the screen has a lip that sits behind the gasket so removing the screen levers out the gasket too.

Good luck
