  1. Hi all, just finished a bag of the James Roasters Yirgacheffe. I struggled to get this bean to really work for me, even with the recommended recipe (from Peter James himself) of 12g into 200g of water with a 2 minute brew. I personally found that it worked better with about 13-13.5g of coffee with 200g of water, 2 minute brew time. Water just off the boil. This gave a nice acidity and also a good body. It may well just be my lack of experience with why I struggled with this bean, but It was lovely when it worked! I've got one of his Rwandan's on order next, very excited!
  2. Evening, Has anyone tried the above before? What are you opinions. I purchased a bag 7 days ago and received them 6 days ago. I was surprised how much I like this blend. I've always been pulled towards dark roasts and presumed the bitterness than is associated with the dark roasts was just something I'd have to put up with, but as a never-ending task to find a blend that suits my taste may have just come to an end. I'm sat drinking a cap as I type this. Beans are now 6 days old and the taste, I believe, is at it's peak. I think I may have to go and make myself another cap. Cheers
  3. Seem to remember people raving about these a few months ago, picked some greens up and roasted them a couple of weeks ago, took them a little darker than most on here would like, been pulling shots with them this week. As Espresso the flavours are crazy, flat white calms them down a bit but they cut through the milk massively, really enjoying them, have another 3kg so may roast some more tonight, but 4 different levels to play around. Anyone else doing them in shots, or were they preferred as brewed?
  4. I've really enjoyed the Yirgacheffe coffees from Foundry (alas out of stock) and Sundulag. Keen to try some others in a similar vein.... Any other recommendations please ?-- the fruitier and funkier the better!
  5. The last beans in the house have just gone into the grinder hopper so I figured its a good time to browse some of our sponsors offers and have ordered 2 coffees from Smokey Barn coffee roasters The two I have chosen are; Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Dumerso Guatemala Finca San Francisco Tecuamburro I have had the Tecuamburro from a number of roasters (last years crop) so I'm looking forward to comparing my tasting notes I am yet to try the Dumerso but have heard great things about them. Will let you know my thoughts on these when they arrive.
  6. Totally by chance I bumped into The Ethiopian Coffee Company at Southbank today. They had a small stall selling 4 of their coffees; Yirgacheffe Sidamo Harar Lekempti I had not tried the Lekempti before but could pick out it's influence in their 4 bean blend that was being served. It has a gingernut biscuit flavour, and was a delight to taste. The Blueberry notes of the Yirgacheffe were also present and there was also a caramel undertone. A pleasing combination. Bunaboy is a member of the forum and her partner was manning their stall today. I believe they are at the Southbank (behind the Royal Festival Hall) this weekend. If you're in the area do stop by and make yourself known as a Coffee Forums UK member. Right opposite their stand is a Roast Pork Sandwich stand - too temping and we had to buy one for lunch. Good decision.
  7. Just the coffee for a snowy winters day - Chocolatey notes, intense flavour but not as floral as the description on the site. I found this coffee best enjoyed as a French Press, bringing out a little bright acidity at first but settling to leave a decent finish. This coffee has the oomph to cut through milk in a latte or cappuccino CoffeeBeanShop's description can be found here
  8. Just a quick question, I just got a nice looking bag of Yirgacheffe beans from James Roasters which were roasted on the 2/05/17. How long should I leave them before drinking? Thanks Rory
  9. Hi everyone, Looking for a lighter roast I treated myself to some expensive yirgacheffe but cannot seem to get the grind level right. The pressure level is rather low even at fine grind (Kanso Hiku manual grinder at 0.3), the coffee pours out fast, and the taste is bitter. I am rather amateur but it's now a challenge for me to get it right (at least get one reasonable-tasting espresso out of the 250g bag :)). Does anyone have insights as to what I may be doing wrong? Thank you!
  10. Despite having opened our doors three weeks ago, this Thursday evening Penny University will be open from 6:00pm - 8:00pm to celebrate our launch. Our neighbours on Redchurch - Aesop and Sunspel - will also be open for the evening, and all three stores will be serving drinks. Join us for a celebratory Capao, Yirgacheffe, or perhaps a 5AM Saint Amber Ale from Brew Dog. Penny University Opening Drinks Thursday 17 June 6:00pm - 8:00pm 5 Redchurch Street Shoreditch, E2 7DJ

    Yingacheffe beans

I read elsewhere that Yingacheffe beans are highly liked by regular drinkers. Can somebody who has tried them please give their opinion? Thanks.
