  1. Just emptied my coffee drawer where I keep my bags, and thought it was a time for a clear-out.. They all have maybe a shots worth of beans in, and aren't worth keeping as they are all very much out of date. At least they won't go to waste as they'll go in my compost bin How come I have so many? Well, these are pre EK43 bags.. I know from before when I borrowed Mark's @fatboyslim EK43 I went through more.. The Versalab is too much faff to knock shots out on when I'm half asleep on a morning, although the Niche is pretty good, the EK is so bloody fast and consistent, plu
  2. Hello CF members, I would like to sell my Titus dosing tool for the Versalab M3 and the Titus Grinder. It can also be used with an EK43, but a different mounting plate must be purchased. The set includes the original Titus-Dosing Tool, including mouth-blown Titus-Hopper, the mounting plate, rings for adjusting the bean quantity and four chutes. Three stainless steel chutes are included, one chrome-plated, another matt and the third untreated (still with protective foil). The fourth slide is an original Versalab slide. All the necessary screws are located under the adhesive
  3. The very valuable and also very long "What Weighs 38 lbs And Fits In Your Hand Luggage? Thread" is closed. This is a new thread to post comments etc. about the Versalab.
  4. This "M3" has been HEAVILY MODIFIED by “Terranova”, to the point that practically isn't an M3 from VL. Main benefits from the mod are: 1 - Burrs adjusted for maximum parallelism. Which directly affects grind quality. 2 - High torque power. Affects grind quality too. 3 - Variable RPM "Speed Profiling" feature. 150 - 550 rpm
  5. We were linked to this in another thread so I thought I'd see if anyone has heard of it or tried it? Looks interesting... https://onacoffee.com.au/shop/ocd-ona-coffee-distributor/ Looks like they are being sold by coffeehit...
  6. I started off 3.5 years ago with a gaggia baby twin, followed by a nespresso when I had v young kids, back to gaggia twin, then on to rancilio Silvia, then la spaziale Vivaldi and finally this week I have bought a second hand gs3. 3.5 years in total and really only 18 months of true obsession. I completely blame the forum since it has been the fuel for my obsession and also allowed me to redefine what is 'normal' behaviour. It has been such a great learning experience and I have loved the process of trying to develop more knowledge and skills. i have had great support throughout and specific t
  7. Hi I have recently switched from the La Spaz to the GS3. i think i now have a dosing and distribution issue. I am trying to grind straight into the portafilter and, as you know, you get the classic volcano. The issue is that i try to 'fill' the volcano but this is quite difficult to do reliably. I either have to bang the portafilter to try and get the hole filled or else i try and use my finger but the level of the coffee is below the top of the basket so this is not very easy and leads to poor results. The outcome is that i get a lot of duff shots with massive channelling and (with a naked
  8. Ok, for those there yesterday, of the main grinders, EK, Compak, Robur, Versalab, HG One if you could buy one, all things being equal, which one would you actually decide to take home? If you choose a big conical, then you have to remember that you would be quite happy offsetting the retention for the flavour profile. So, ifI have done this correctly, be interesting to see which one is favourite. Please do not vote if you were not there. better still, no poll, just add your name and I will make a table later on
  9. I'm considering a new grinder, and am leaning towards a Versalab I still love my Vario but it's time for something new to pair with my Alex Duetto MkIV Although my Anfim Caimano often spends time on the bench it's a wee bit too big for the space my coffee equipment occupies, so a smaller footprint grinder is a high consideration. I'm only considering a new grinder as well. What are you all considering as your next grinders? and what draws you to them?
  10. Looking to upgrade my grinder when I've saved a few more pennies, I would like a top grade grinder so I don't have to upgrade again. I'm thinking along the lines of, Mythos Anfim super caimano Compak H10/K8 Mahlkonig K30 vario HG one Most of the time I single dose so would it be a waste of time to own one of these grinders, or would the shot be much better than my Macap. I know the HG one is probably the best bet for single dosing, but not sure I want the hassle of turning that handle. Thanks.
  11. I'd welcome any advice from current owners, dos and don'ts and process steps. I'm about to order one (if there are no used ones available here - posted in Wanted) and the medium (450g) hopper (the small won't take a 350g bag) and the pf holder. - Do you grind directly into the pf, tamp and extract without distributing? - Should I order a new conical burr and belt at the same time in case of later supply/delivery issues? - How many different bushings do you actually use? (I use 14g doses and the bushing calculation sheet says a 10 for 15.2g, a 9 for 13.7g of Kenya Peaberry.)
  12. I’ve been reading up on the so called ‘Coffee Shot’. A brewed type coffee extraction from an espresso machine. I did an experiment with my departing Versalab by opening up the grind approx 2.5 times coarser than for a normal espresso. I dropped the brew temperature on the La Spaz to -90C. Lightly tamped 18 grams of ‘Italian Job’ , now thats an unlikely candidate for brewed, & finally set the volume to deliver 310 grams in 45 seconds. After a couple of experiments I found it dialled in best at these numbers. Whilst I enjoy playing with the likes of a refractometer & seeing i
