  1. Am wondering if anyone else has come across this problem, or might be able to diagnose it for me. I've had my ECM Mechanika IV Profi for about 18 months (it's a rotary pump, running from the reservoir). Recently I've noticed that when I pull a shot the brew pressure goes up to around 11-12 bar, and the OPV starts draining pretty much instantaneously. Therefore I end up with a drip tray that fills up very quickly, and when I stop the shot I'm noticing that there's no pressure release coming out of the exhaust valve as there would be normally. I've removed and cleaned the shower screen etc and removed the mushroom to give that a good clean (although it wasn't too bad, despite living in a very hard water area). But before I start dismantling the machine, I thought I'd see if collective forum wisdom might be able to point me in the right direction and save me some hassle? My suspicion is it's calcium build-up somewhere, despite cleaning and backflushing fairly religiously, as the water where I live is a nightmare. Question is where/what exactly. Could it maybe be the pump?
  2. Hello all, so I have my Izzo Pompei dual fuel running on LPG with a 12v battery for my shurflo pump, grinder and the machines electronics, with the help of an inverter. The shurflo is pumping fresh water into the machine until the boiler reaches operating pressure. Then it shuts off, and doesn't kick back in when the boiler level drops (there's a button on the front of the machine to give the pump a whoosh and this also ceases to work when at operating pressure). This means that once I'm up to pressure, my boiler starts to empty as I pull coffees, steam milk or use my hot water and I cannot refill?!! Has anybody any suggestions/ideas/similar experiences? Mucho appreciado, Philip
  3. I've decided to clean my Gaggia Brera today. While doing so, I've also took apart the filter and the valve that's inside the water tank. After putting it all together, water is not running at all, not through the steamer nor the coffee pouring part. I can hear the water pump working, but water is just leaking outside the machine. It could be that I didn't put the valve right, but I've done this before without a problem. So I think something is blocking the water afterwards. Can anyone tell what the problem is, or where should I look for it? Thanks.
  4. Hi CoffeeForumers, I have a Dualshit DCM2 that my Dad gave me when it stopped working. It just made a horrendous sound when switched on and primed. In fact it didn't prime at all, trying three times before giving up. Very loud. I believe this to be because there was no water getting to the pump. I thought maybe the pump was on its last legs. So, I stripped it down to get to the pipework. I cleaned out all the pipes with stiff wire and vinegar. Reassembled the device and started it up. Sucess! I now get steam and hot water at good pressure and flow rate from the milk frother wand but when I switch to "coffee cup" mode, it has three goes at priming and then make a low volume, humming pump sound but nothing comes out of the shower head. Like the water is stuck somewhere. Another pipe? An internal blockage in the die-cast metal heating section? I have cleaned the shower head in vinegar but it seems to me that the water isn't quite getting to that final section for some reason. Assuming there's still a blockage somewhere the pipework attaches to in the die-cast metal of the heating section, I will be stripping down and repeating the process. But, before i do that... Can the milk frother be working but the shower head not working for any reason other than pipe blockage? Could it be pump related at all? The pump goes quieter when the water is trying to go the shower head route. I can provide pictures or youtube vid if that would help but maybe someone has some insight just from the description? Strange that I got one process working (the steam wand) but not the main coffee making section. It seems most likely to be another blockage somewhere, I'm just not looking forward to taking all the screws out... again. Thanks for reading, hope you can help!
  5. Hi all, I recently got my hands on a used Gaggia D90 and have it set up drawing from a tank. Everything is warming well, boiler keeps pressure, autofills okay, steams okay. However I can't get any water for a brew! The pump doesn't engage when you try and pull a shot, and only steam comes out. Am i missing something really simple?
  6. After trying to dial in some beans that kept wanting to finer and finer, the grinder (F83) started producing really coarse grinds. Did i push it too far? It was further than i had tightened it before but the tightening action didn't feel any different. How do i return it to 'normal'? How do i avoid this happening again in the future? Many thanks Ewan
  7. Normally once you shutdown the machine (or if it shuts down automatically), or when you switch it on, it does a rinse where it flushes hot water through the spouts that normally coffee comes through. For some reason, today it doesn't seem to be doing the rinse. It says the rinse is being performed but no water comes out. I try to do a rinse manually, and still no water. I have done a "coffee system clean", which flushes the system with Caffiza but still didn't help. I'm scared to make coffee now as it wont rinse it through. There is still warranty with Bella Barista but they are closed right now. Can someone help me in the meantime, please?
  8. Hi! Long-time browser, first-time poster. I've tried searching around for solutions but haven't found anything to help. I have a cheap grinder and this espresso machine, which up until recently produced a relatively decent shot, in 25-30s with a fair amount of crema that didn't dissipate quickly. Without changing anything, the shot now takes about 20 seconds, blondes early and is watery with no crema. I don't understand what could have changed, and it has a pressurised filter with an artificial crema maker thing so presumably should produce crema whatever happens (right?). I've tried cleaning and descaling it and no difference. Does anyone have any suggestions? If the beans are too old, would that produce a watery, crema-less shot even with the pressurised filter and crema thing? Thanks a bunch!
  9. Hi, I just have a couple of quite basic questions about brewing espresso coffee which I can't seem to get my head around, I've been making espresso's for a while but i just want to get them tasting a bit better would really appreciate any help on the following: Will a coffee ratio of, say 1:2 always taste the same with same regardless of dose? Obviously changing grind size. If not then there seems to be so many variables you can change! When the coffee comes through the group head, does it matter if it takes say 15s for a drop to come through, as long as enough comes through by say 35s? Or are you looking for an even flow from start to finish? Some shots I've pulled have done the above: almost nothing comes through for a while then it all comes gushing through, and the shots taste a bit sour, why could this be? thanks for any advice given! Rory
