1. Hi all, Here for sale is a 2010 Gaggia Classic. Usual work carried out includes: New boiler seal New group head seal Descaled & backflushed Older, larger 3-way solenoid fitted OPV set to 10 BAR Rancilio Silvia steam wand fitted The machine is in very good condition, the water chute has some visible marks, however it's covered by the lid and only aesthetic so it's not something that has bothered me. The machine also has the classic known issue of a drip from the steam wand when heating up the steam function - a quick blast of the steam wand tends to mitigate this. Power cable Portafilter Double unpressurized basket Double pressurized basket/Perfect crema device Original Gaggia tamper Original Gaggia scoop £150 collected from Oxford. Can post for £15 Pictures to follow
2. due to upgraditis i have my baby dose for sale, its the same internals as the classic but has two buttons which can be programmed for volumetric dose with the first having pre infusion and a manual button aswell for full control, ive had it about 6 months and the previous owner 2 years, its been regualrly descaled and run on filtered water whilst ive had it and been regularly backflushed with puly caff, it has the rancillio steam wand upgrade on it but has the original wand with it aswell, the portafilter comes with original double which is pretty much done but there is a month old double,a single and a pod basket+a blanking basket for back flushing, grindenstein knockbox, stainless steel milk jug and thermometer, plastic tamper and group head brush, there are a few scratches here and there, nothing major, the worst are on the polished finish and ive tried to show them in the photo, theres no box or instructions but manual can be seen here at the moment im not in no mad rush to sell so collection only from Huddersfield HD5, £100 reduced to £80
3. Hi there Many of you have the Silvia steam wand as an alternative to the original. I threw my Silvia steam wand away and made my own. The Silvia wand was noisy, made the milk boil, required frequent replacement of the upper rubber seal and failed to produce repeatable results. I cut off parts from a Gaggia commercial steam wand and soldered them to a copper tube which I bent with a pipe bender. I must admit it required three attempts before I got to the end result. My steam wand has a removeable end cap that allows the quick change of steaming tips. I can use single or multiple hole type tips. The copper pipe is larger then the original size. This allows more steam to pass through and does not "cook" the milk. However careful use of the steam output is necessary to ensure a constant flow of steam. I made the wand a little longer and is very silent when in use. It also tucks in very neatly even with the water trough in place. My homemade wand has been in use for almost 10 months without any problems.I've subsequently installed an OPV and I'm busy fitting an Auber PID.
4. Hi All As I have upgraded my Classic to a Profitec 700, I am looking to sell it on. It has been well looked after with regular backflush with Cafiza and has drunk Brita filtered water all of it's time with us. Additionally we have very soft water here, so scale is not likely. To be on the safe side I have been descaling once or twice a year. It was fitted with the Auber PID with the pre-infusion option in December. This works really well to control the consistency and repeatability of the brew temperature and was a massive help to me in improving my shots. It will come with the following; Bottomless Portafilter Pressure Gauge Standard Spouted Portafilter Single and Double basket PID Original brewstat, should you want to reverse the PID (not sure you ever would) Silvia Steam Wand Original Steam Wand Grouphead Seal Boiler Gasket x 3 Steam Wand Seals. There are a couple of issues worth mentioning; The unit has been well used, and does have some scratches on the cup warmer and drip tray. Nothing deep, but lots of surface scratching. Now and again the steam wand will drip. Not all of the time and I don't know what causes it. It might need replacing one day. Given that the machine has a PID and comes with a bottomless portafilter I am asking for £200 collected, or we can arrange local delivery. I have had several poor experiences with couriers and expensive kit so I do not want to post this. Sorry. If any one wants to see more detailed photos, or anything in particular, please shout up
5. Anyone got one kicking around before I go and buy a new one? Used would be fine with me as loing as it's in full working order. Need to upgrade the arm on my Classic. Cheers.
6. Hi sorry I am sure its been discussed before but I didn't hit anything on a quick search. I have a gaggia dose which is broken atm. anyway I am wondering if there are better home machines for steaming milk. I was not particularly impressed this this machine I was never able to get a micro foam with it and I believe (with my machine) it was not possible. I had taken off the frother attachment and gone through the process as shown online without ever making micro foam. So can anyone recommend a better machine that is possible for micro foam. 1 problem I did have the the gaggia baby dose was the wand was so small without the attachment you couldn't get a good size frothing pitcher under it if especially when dipping tip lower down, as well as that there is very little space you could only get a small pitcher in there and then your milk goes all over the show, just not good really. Anyone know if these issues are there in the baby class? thanks dave
7. Please help ;-) Like many Gaggia users , I went ahead and fitted a Silvia V1/2 wand, but I am getting really poor results. Ok, I am using semi skimmed milk, but surely that can't be the reason I am getting a really poor foam ? Any help on technique or anything else I might be doing wrong. Also the gage seems to run out of steam really quickly too - anything I can do there ? I am very close to going back to the original wand. Cheers
8. I was just wondering if anybody had considered or managed upgrading their version 1 or 2 Silvia's steam wand to the latest incarnation? I see that you can buy the kit in the US. Here's a link: http://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/Rancilio-Steam-wand-Upgrade-for-V1-and-V2-Silvia-p/scgp10705169-1.htm Perhaps its not worth the effort? I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks in advance.
9. I know from reading online that the Silvia wand can be retrofitted to Gaggia Classic and wondered if the same thing can be done with the Baby Dose. Cheers Don
10. Hi I contacted Happy Donkey about the steam wand and they said thier version is pre modified and ones on ebay are not. Anyone here know whats been modified as I thought they just swap nuts with Classic wand and bolt back on.
11. Hi guys again. I've read about fitting a Silvia steam wand to a Gaggia Classic. Would it also fit a Baby Class? I think the joint that joins the wand to the machine is different - its like ball joint on the Baby Class.
12. As per the title, for sale here is a Gaggia Classic (pre-Phillips takeover) in very good condition. Work done this week: Group head seal replaced Boiler seal replaced Boiler descaled OPV mod (OPV adjusted to 10 bar - ideal pressure for brewing espresso) Brand new Rancilio Silvia steam wand fitted - this is seen as a sensible & must-have upgrade for the Gaggia Classic to produce decent microfoam The chassis in in VGC, i've given it a quick polish with Brasso this evening - with a little more effort it will be spotless! There are a few marks that will easily polish out with a bit of elbowgrease. There are no dents or deep scratches. It's an Italian model with the larger (and more reliable solenoid) Sold with the following: Unpressurised single & double baskets Original Gaggia tamper Instruction manual Power cable Portafilter All in the original box £150 - Collection welcomed from Oxford, OX1. Can post for an additional £12.50
13. Used for about four months on my Classic - still in great condition. Massively improves steaming ability.
