1. So I'm moving! The job I'm offered involves rotating between hospitals in Sheffield and Leeds. Having only lived in the South, I have no idea about either place. Anyone here from Leeds/Sheffield?
 2. Hi all Although we've been members of this community for a good long while, our account hasn't been active since 2013!! So, now we are back up and running, we thought we'd say hi again. So... Hi. Look forward to getting involved again and making some new friends, and reacquainting ourselves with some old ones. See you on the flip side...
 3. SOLD I have upgraded my machine so am selling my Gaggia Classic for £120. I have had it since new, regularly back washed it with puly caff and only run lovely soft Sheffield water through it, no need to de-scale this. It comes with a portafilter that is missing the end cap of the handle, a double basket and a blanking plate. The power lead is from my new machine, I am keeping the original as it doesn't stick out as much. I only use it for espresso so I don't know what it is like for steam. No mods at all. The last service was Mr Bean to Cup in 2016 and he reported and did the following: The main problem is the corroded boiler - The water pump has a broken spring which affects the pressure it makes - The steam valve has a leak - Full service is due, given the age and the state of the machine The costs were:

Water pump 1 £16.50

Boiler 1 £44.00

Steam valve 1 £33.00

Full service 1 £80.00

I am based in Sheffield, I am happy to double box and ship it at the buyers expense. Happy to answer questions. Cheers Dean

 6. I called into Marmadukes on Saturday lunchtime when they were getting absolutely slammed (there was a queue out the door and all tables were taken). It would have been easy for them to let things slip a little but everything was spot on. I had a great pourover from sundlaug coffee roasters and finished with a superb cult of done espresso. I watched the barista as I queued and he still appeared to be maintaining quality procedures (e.g. weighing his portafilter and very precisely removing or adding small amounts of coffee to hit his target weight). The staff were really friendly too. Can't recommend it highly enough really.
 7. I'm travelling up to Sheffield next Saturday to take in a footy match. If I manage to persuade my mates to go for a coffee as opposed to beer, which of these two would be the best bet? (I need somewhere near the train station - if there's anywhere else let me know). I hear a lot of good things about Tamper but they apparently serve Ozone which doesn't excite me too much. Haven't heard much about Marmadukes but they seem to stock roasters who are more to my taste (e.g. Workshop).
 8. Gave up on this place last week after they said it'd be 40 minutes to an hour for a sandwich. Came back this week and really glad we did! Best coffee I've had in Sheffield (by a whisker from Amici & Bici - both have excellent baristas but Tamper edges it on the blend). Food is where the new branch of Tamper really comes into its own though. It's not cheap but the quality is not cafe quality - in fact it's better than the vast majority of restaurants in Sheffield. The steak was very tender, obviously cooked to order, the chips (and seemingly everything else on the plate) are made from scratch. Even the baked beans on the all day breakfast were something special!
 9. Thought it about time to say hello! I've perused this forum for quite a while trying to glean some hints and tips on making a better coffee and on the invariable equipment upgrade. I currently have an old Gaggia Coffee Deluxe that I inherited which needed a thorough strip down and scrub before use which was a great way to feel 'involved' in the process. I've not got any mods on it with the exception of a Rancilio steam wand which I think is improving my milk skills. Alongside the Gaggia I have a Hario Skerton hand grinder which I find infuriating as the grind is either too fine or too course without the happy medium but I have learnt to dose in order to get a suitable (if not a little variable) ouput of weight and time. Beanswise; I've been buying beans from a great coffee shop in town who use Ozone roasters I think it is with the latest batch being a single origin. A bit more pricey but certainly tasty. The recent post in Grinders made me chuckle as yes, I am certainly confused where my money needs to go! The huge time to make two lattes for me and the boss is wearing a little thin so grinder and machine upgrade is imminent but grinder is to be first! Anyhows, enough rambling. Hi
 10. Nothing to do with coffee, but if anyone is around Sheffield next month this is a feature length documentary for which I have a 25% credit: https://sheffdocfest.com/films/show/5307 Roland
 11. I've done a half-day basic Barista skills workshop, but need some help to master latte art. Can anyone recommend a trainer / course in the Sheffield, Derby orNottingham area please? Many thanks Tony
