  1. Well at long last I succumbed and bought a proper grinder. The Krupps 75 that I've been using until now was a gift and I felt I would have been an ingrate if I didn't use it for some length of time, well that time is up. I'll still use it if I want to use the french press, but that's an uncommon occurrence. Gaggia Classic /silvia wand, VST 15g Ridgeless, Eureka Mignon, Rocket Tamper, Espro Toroid & Ilsa Jug, Francis Francis knock box, cheapo scales.
  2. It is a while since I took photos of my set up - here’s how it looks now Grinders and paraphernalia on the dresser:
  3. This is how things look now. Because we often make our coffee together it has worked out quite well using the end of the dresser for whichever grinder is in use, meaning we are not standing on one another's toes!
  4. Just finished disassembling, cleaning and reassembling my new grinder so thought it would be the perfect time to post my set up. So here is my Izzo Alex MK1 and Compak K10, next to my Gaggia Classic and Compak K3. The pictures don't really show how much bigger the K10 is to the K3. Really happy with my set up and shows that you can get a good one cheaply, if you are willing to scour eBay for weeks and clean for a couple days. Posting this while waiting for my machine to heat up, so I can make my first coffee with the new grinder. Does still need work, grinder is missing a piece and the doser lens cracked in transport.
  5. Hi Guys and Gals. I've got my new and first real set up. I bought a La Pavoni Europiccola of Ebay and Ferrari's in Bridgend have just serviced it. I've also bought the La Cimbali Magnum that Grahamg was selling. I went to the local coffee shop that also roasts its beans, had two espresso's yesterday and bought the same beans so I could compare. So this morning up and ready armed with all the gear (clearly no idea) I've managed some terrible coffee. On my last attempt I had a bit of crema on the sides of the cup and a bit floating but the espresso was watery and bitter. How I set up, 13g in the basket, the pull was 46 seconds don't know if I'm pulling to hard or too slow but this felt comfortable. On the attempt before the grind was half a turn finer and the arm of the machine was bending as I pulled it through coffee was also rubbish. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  6. Having just bought a house in Scotland (Helensburgh if anyone is a tad bit interested!) we are shipping some belongings back in the next month or so and my new Silvia and Mignon will be carefully cleaned and then packed back in their original boxes. So I'll be going from this..... To somewhere in the corner here.... So I'll post a new set up piccy sometime near to Christmas. My final actions before packing will be to back flush and descale the Silvia......which first? Empty the boiler and clean the Mignon, ruined screw head permitting!
  7. Well, I've been waiting for the tiles to be done before I put a picture of my corner up but looks like it may be a while so here we go, and excuse the state of the walls at the moment. I prefer my brewed to espresso, hence the cheap £10 gumtree espresso machine (for when the feeling for one strikes) As you can see I have my chemex, French press and the aeropress, my wilfa grinder takes care of all my needs for brewed, not great for espresso I don't think (never used an expensive grinder) but it does me fine for what I need, for now, which can also be said for the espresso machine.
  8. Hi all, Im Andrew, I love coffe well that's why I'm here lol. I have worked in the past in cafes restaurants and such, so I have a grasp of a decent espresso. I would hope.. Now I have moved to France with the family. Now if you lived, stayed, been on holidays, or passed trough you know that finding a coffee that doesn't taste burned, or at least taste like a coffee its darn hard. I haven't find one so far (my experience!). Now here is the idea, I am thinking of building all the way DIY coffee trailer in a trailer for horses. Budget doesn't allow for walls and the roof kind of coffee shop. i am in planing stage for now, writing the ideas of doable and not doable and such. so considering that it's a trailer I have no clue what kind of set up do I need? i was hoping you guys would be able to help with advice or direction I should explore. my budget should not exceed 7k € for all the way until I sell first coffee do you think is doable? where to start ? I have never done a set up so I'm kind of in the dark.. coffee machine? grinder? water tank? generator? grey water tank? heater? till? Wanna start decent and then upgrade. Your thought will be much appreciated. Andrew
  9. Finally got the mignon in anthracite today. Been told I'll be needing some rough beans to run through told me could be about a kilo before it will start to settle correctly. Any help from the forum in getting the grinder up and running the best way will be much appreciated. Also are there any mods that are an advantage to the mignon. thnaks
  10. It has been 2 months since I first started on a journey of coffee with these babies. Such an emotional moment when I have to swap out the Iberital MC5 for the Mazzer Super Jolly. I was getting more and more used to the Iberital MC5. Well, sometimes, things just have to get better. Before: After: Never knew I have to waste so much coffee ground when swapping a new grinder into place.
