  1. hey guys, im looking for a new espresso machine, had a la pavoni professional, but gave it to my sister after wanting to change things up thinking about a Rocket Giotto type V or a ECM classica PID, or do you have any other suggestions? dont really want a second hand machine or something i have to restore my budget is around 1k-1300€ can you folks help me?
  2. Hi all, I have had my trusty rocket giotto since 2012, taken great care of it with Volvic water from the beginning (and regular descaling) to then a plumbed in set-up (Britta filter). Back then it was one of the nicest HX machine with a smooth rotary pump. Recently changed the E61 rubber seal, all in perfect working order All the gears, including extra naked portafilter and couple baskets however I am missing the original box (I have the papers though) https://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/blog/2016/10/24/rocket-espresso-evoluzione/ Pick-up in Tooting, London only [sO
  3. I am looking at a Rocket Giotto Premium Plus found new for sale at around £1000. This seems a lot cheaper than others that are around £1400-1500 but there seems to be v2 and v3 models. My budget does not stretch to 1.5K so was wondering if the Rocket Giotto Premium Plus is any good, still worth it and what disadvantages are over the newer models if that is the case. Looks like the V2 has two pressure gauges and the V3 a PID?
  4. I have been reading the posts on coffeeforums.co.uk for the last few months and am ready to buy my first home expresso machine. At work we have a Gaggia Classic and I am looking for the next step up from this for home. Having ready the "Choosing an Domestic Espresso Machine" post and other research I have settled on a HX machine. It will only be used mainly at weekends and a few times in the week for mainly milk based drinks (cappuccino and latte) my budget does not stretch to many double boiler machines and I don't think they will be as economical for my occasional use. I already have a Ascas
  5. And I think it's gonna be a long long time Til I un-derstand Italian minds The Rocket product deals have got me beat Oh no no no,.... think I'll stick with tea Rocket, man, your product naming is too much for me....... So here is the problem........ Looking at Rocket, they are apparently bringing new products out all the time in the mid range, HE, Vibration pump. So there are presumably deals to be had on rollout models as dealers clear their old stock ready for the current/new Rocket Espresso V. (Giotto or Mozzafiato) So I am finding attractive deals (on the
  6. Due to a recent upgrade I am selling my trusty setup. Collection only in Newcastle upon Tyne. Compak E8 (previously in separate thread) with the standard burrs: Compak E8, purchased from Bella Barista (August 2015), perfect working condition, still on warranty (until 19.08.2017). I still have an original invoice and a BB warranty card. I would estimate that I ground approximately 30 kg of coffee with it (always light or medium roast, single origins). I am the first owner and I used it only at home. It was my main grinder for over a year and it's fantastic. I am selling it only because
  7. I am considering buying a new espresso machine for the money I could get from selling my compak e8 and rocket giotto V2. They are both extremely good (and beautiful) pieces of equipment but I am tired with not having a PID. My main issue with the rocket is that it is extremely difficult to get reproducible temp profiles (based on Eric's thermometer readings) affecting the consistency (based on my tastebuds readings) of the shots I am pulling. I think that dual boiler machine with PID could solve this issue. I would use a Pharos grinder as my main espresso grinder instead of the compak. I do
  8. hello...pleased to meet you... have just upgraded from a dualit/gaggia classic combination to Rocket giotto premium plus v1 and mazzer mini grinder......and some nice new illy cups ..so am paving the way for my impending technical questions en-route to my espresso nirvana. At this point, and I'm sure it will bring a smile to many....I'm thinking this will prevent the desire to upgrade again.... cheers, Niall. Muswell Hill, London. rock on.
  9. Hi there, after using for some years a Mahlkonig Vario I was looking for a new grinder to sit proudly next to the Rocket Giotto ... so logically went for a Mazzer Mini E Even found the new Mazzer for Rocket version!! So far I am finding it very consistent but sort of slower than the Vario, i need a good 18seconds to get enough for a double shot ... well 18gr While on the Vario 11seconds were enough! Quite a big difference which i found surprising because the mazzer is supposed to have a 1400rpm to 1600rpm blade speed while Vario is 1000rpm
  10. Hi, I'm Frans and I've been enjoying home coffee machines for about a year now, starting off with a MyPressi, then adding a refurbished old La Pavoni lever, a Rocket Giotto and a Ponte Vecchio Lusso 2 which got some modification. Expecting to pick up my Londinium sometime later this month. In the grinders section I started off with an iSteel and then got a Mahlkönig Vario Home and a Mazzer Mini with Super Jolly discs. Can't wait for the HG One to arrive. With the Londinium I it will make a dream match, I expect. Haven't done any home roasting yet and I'm glad that there are a few good pla
  11. Hi folks. Great forum. I am waiting on my newly serviced(and much abused) Classic returning tomorrow.Looking about for a grinder at the minute(prob MC2). Although I'm getting a bad case of complete upgradeitis looking around here. Rocket Giotto (drool)I thought myself a coffee snob 10 years ago, having read through what you guys are up to I see I am way behind the curve these days. Looking forward to upping my game.
  12. Hi Guys I have a Gaggia 'Coffee' espresso machine. I've had it about 5 years and it works fine. If I were to buy a 'better' machine (Rancilio Silvia seems a popular one) would it enable me to make a better cup of coffee? I make cappuccinos. In other words, what does a more expensive machine do compared with a cheaper one? Cheers Dave
