  1. Hi All, I have two RB 54mm tamper bases, One in Brass with a curved base and a Flat Copper one. I have now sold my 54mm machine as such these bases, as beautiful as they are have no further use to me. They have some marks around the edges but remain intact in their shape, cosmetic marks more than anything. images attached. Reluctant to Polish for fear of tainting, is that justified or should I polish pre sale? Any thought on values? Many thanks
  2. After purchasing my new machine, I think it would be rude not to compliment it with a new tamper, and from various articles and posts I have read, it seems that Reg Barber may be the way to go. Having not paid serious attention to this subject with past machines, I have a couple of questions if anyone cares to assist. - The La Spaziale Vivaldi Mini Mk 1 has a 53mm portafilter instead of the usual 58mm which means I seem to have the option between a 53 C-Flat and a 53mm Flat tamper; what is a C-Flat tamping head and why would I choose this? - Metal/wood handle - any different to use or just aesthetics? - Any recommended suppliers for tamping equipment? - Coffee Hit seems to be a good source. I would also welcome a bit of general discussion on the subject (mainly for my education!) surrounding techniques and individual preferences. Regards, Harry.
  3. I've decided to sell my RB tamper as it gets little use. Nice condition just some very minor marks on the metal base. Beautiful handle in Zebrano wood. 58mm base with C ripple - see photos. £37 posted 1st class recorded( reduced from £45 ). Paypal please with buyer picking up fees.
  4. Does anyone know where you can pick up a 58.35mm RB (Flat Base) these days? Coffeehit seem to be the main stockists for Pullman and Reg Barber tampers in the UK, but they hardly have anything in stock?? Was wondering if anywhere else does them? (apparently Hasbean don't stock either now..)
  5. Reg Barber 45mm flat base (base only), bought direct. Unmarked.Suits Ponte Vecchio Lusso or Export espresso machines and any other machine with a 45mm diameter basket. As the title says, i'm offering this for sale, or if anyone wants to swap for a 58.35 reg barber base. Feel free to get in touch. Martin

    Tampers and PF

Hi, Got spare a Reg Barber 58mm flat base tamper, £50 posted, and Torr trapezconvex 58.4mm tamper, SOLD. Along with, naked portafilter for a Gaggia Classic almost brand new, SOLD. All items are in like new in very good condition. Payment by bank transfer or PayPal gift. Can collect from Sittingbourne, Kent if preferred. Cheers.
  7. Time for a new tamper, my home manufactured one is great but doesn`t fit my la marzocca basket (slightly too big) and I cannot get easy access to the machine shop to make another at the moment. So do I Get sensible and buy the Happy Donkey budget one that looks very like a Reg Barber. Get a Concept Art one from Drury with the interchangeable handles and pistons Get a proper Reg Barber Go techie and get an Espro Decisions, decisions
  8. Evening All, I eventually purchased my new equipment a couple of weeks ago which comprises of the following: La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi II This was sent direct from the company and I was only expecting the mark I version, but to receive the mark II was a really nice surprise (I didn't even think the mark II was available in this country). It has really good quality construction and parts and I really couldn't be happier with this so far. The 4 hole tip Milk Steamer really is something else (I'm worried the machine will take off). Mazzer Mini Timer I can certainly see why the doser/doserless debate rages on; whilst the doser has its advantages, it is very messy. The build quality of the Grinder is incredible and performance has been faultless. Reg Barber Tamper (53mm) Exactly as expected; really nice looking and nice to use. New Jug and Cups next - the fun never ends! Regards, Harry Worthington.
  9. My Warmest Wishes for a Very Happy Christmas to all Forum readers. So what did you get that was coffee related this year? My wife gave me (amongst many other things) a carefully researched recipe for a spiced coffee grog (spiced butter, cream and rum figure highly in it). But it came with a collection of all the ingredients needed, and a couple of exceedingly nice latte glasses to serve it in.
  10. Hi, Two bases, One Brass Curved, One Copper Flat for sale or exchange. Would exchange for a RB 58-58.4mm C ripple or C Flat or a 58mm levelling tool. Cosmetic marks from my knocking habit/ style. I have not polished as I feared taint, so have left them as used/ seen. If selling I am looking for £40 for the Copper and £35 for the Brass item, if shipped in the UK I will cover the shipping via Royal mail signed for.
  11. Anyone any personal experience of using these? I know that Fairfax are UK suppliers of them, and whilst I'm sure that they would answer any queries that I have before I order one, I'd be grateful if anyone who has actually used one could give me their impressions. (For example: does the Intense Filter make much difference?)
  12. I have a local coffee place to me (Pumphrey's Coffee) that sells la spaziale machines. I have been looking at the s1 as my 1st espresso machine but I am unsure if I should try and find somewhere else and look at different brands or begin and end with the La Spaziale. Any input is appreciated, my budget is £3000 for coffee machine and grinder as it is going to be part of our entire kitchen re-modelling. It will be installed into a 'coffee station' somewhere within the bench with a knock box built in and things. My grinder thoughts are with a mazzer mini but any suggestions on that front are appreciated too... And then I need a reg barber tamper, and milk jugs and tamping mat and all sorts of other fun stuff to annoy everyone else in the house! God this is a pricey hobby!
  13. I hope that I'm not raising this at an insensitive time, given the comp that's currently running, but I'm ready to buy a new tamper, and I'm on the lookout for opinions and advice. I currently have an Espro pre-tensioned - which is great, but which I've always regarded as a training tool, and I now feel ready to move on to a big boys' tamper. But what to buy? I'm looking longingly at Reg Barbers - but am I just being sucked into hype? I like the idea of a C-Ripple base - curved at the edges, flat in the middle, but with concentric circles embossed onto the flat bit. I like the physics behind both the partial curve and the concentric circles. Only trouble is that they don't seem available in the UK. That doesn't bother me too much, as I like the idea of ordering direct and having it customised with my name or initials on the top. I can live with the price for that - except that the carriage from Canada is over $50 - and I'm drawing the line at that until I've done some more research. So I'm looking for advice and/or opinions. Are RBs as good as their reputation? Anyone got any experience of the C-Ripple? Anyone got any alternatives? The tamper that's the prize in the comp looks good - and can be laser engraved to customise. I wonder how the finish compares to RBs? Any help appreciated.
  14. Just wondering what difference it makes using flat or curve base tampers, and which is better for the home enthusiast? Ta Andy
  15. Does anyone please know the thread size on reg barber tamper handles/bases please. Future does anyone know if it's possible to get a dynometric type handle for a reg barber base?
  16. Hi Guys, Was considering upgrading my standard gaggia double basket to an 18g ridgeless VST. Makes sense to order a matching 58.35mm tamper.. Any thoughts on which one to get? (e.g. Reg Barber, Made By Knock etc.) Also, has anyone directly compared an 18g VST with a 22g? Cheers Andy
  17. Im looking at getting a new tamper as the one with the SDB I recently got just seems to leave that bit too much around the edge (after all it couldn't possibly be my tekkers, I've been tamping for 2 weeks now Having hit the google and accessed the slippery slopes of 'for a bit more money I can get a...' I'd looked at a the following few and wondered if anyone has had hands on with them and could offer an opinion? My main worry is that as a nubber to this, the snugger the fit the less forgiving of poor technique they would be. Pullman Big Step Pergtamp or a Reg Barber made to a similar size (58.4/5mm) I've got the VST baskets already so there's no additional overheads. Any feebdback gratefully appreciated!
  18. Ok, so i've been scouring here...and i can see one has just gone :-( I am currently tamperless...so if someone could point me in the right direction to get me started it would be greatly appreciated. Torr or Reg Barber preferably, wooden handle only. if anyone is selling a tamper & VST basket combo, that would be even better.
