  1. Refurbished Rancilio Silvia mk2. £210. This is the third and probably last Silvia that I have refurbished. It is a Mk 2 and was acquired in a swap with board member PeterinWales. The boiler has been machined and fitted with a replaceable Silvia Mk1 heating element. Stripped and cleaned, no scale, all seals replaced, OPV adjusted to 9 bar. All working with no issues. Case is in good cosmetic condition. Single and double baskets, can throw in a plastic tamper if wanted. I can supply and fit a Rex c100 PID for an extra £40 if desired. I would prefer buyer to pickup from near Oswestry or I can deliver or meet locally in the Chester/Wrexham/Shrewsbury area for the petrol costs, I am not too keen to send by courier due to past problems but may do so if no local interest, cost will be about £15. I also have a very low mileage Iberital grinder in very good condition that I will sell with the Silvia for an extra £100 (plus post if needed). I bought it new but haven’t used it much, not because there is anything wrong with it, its just because I acquired a Brasilia RR45 and use that as it looks better in a kitchen environment. This grinder is really a rebadged Cunill Brasil but is often sold rebadged with other manufacturers names e.g. Iberital and Fracino and others. I also have two fully working Bezzera BZ02’s (£300 and £200) and a single group mains fed Iberital L’Anna (£130) sitting unused in the workshop. If interested, let me know and I’ll revive their adverts.
  2. Currently deliberating between a few grinders, recently ordered a Sage Duo Temp Pro from Lakeland after contacting their customer support about their price matching scheme (managed to get it lowered to around £298 ). 1) Sage BCG600 Dose Control Pro: £149 2) Sage BCG820 The Smart Grinder: £165 3) Baratza Sette 30AP: £187 4) Refurbished Baratza Sette 270W: £199 (Coffee Hit) Which grinder will give me the best bang for my buck? Does anyone have any experience with refurbished machines from CoffeeHit (and their customer support)? The Sette 270W looks good but I am just wondering how the refurbished machine will fare in the long run. As for the Sage grinders, I am concerned about repairability (burr replacement, spare parts). Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.
  3. Any ideas of firms in Newcastle Upon Tyne that could supply a refurbished 1-group (ideally DB but possibly HX) or small 2-group commercial espresso machine, preferably including future servicing? Putting the feelers out ahead of an office move towards the end of this year or early next year.
  4. This classic has been fully stripped, components decalcified, all internal seals replaced, OPV mod, new group seal, upgraded to stainless steel bolts for the boiler and cleaned as much as possible. Full disclosure- The aluminium dispersion plate has a little bit of baked on gunge on its outer edge and there is still a bit of impossibly stubborn lime in the boiler corners. The solenoid is brass, but a smaller replacement version similar to the modern steel ones. There are a few other subtle signs internally indicating this machine has had a few replacement parts in its lifetime, but I don't think any of these 'bad points' will change the coffee you get out. The case has a mark on the back and the lid has the usual scratches from use, see pictures. The portafilter had baked on junk I couldn't fully remove, so have included a nice newer (and cleaner) one. It has a commercial spout, but can swap it for a normal Gaggia one if desired. Just a double basket is included. Due to its imperfect nature I'm advertising for £85 and still believe it will be a solidly reliable machine, perfectly re-sellable (possibly with profit) to get your money back when you upgrade. Collection in London, with Notting Hill Gate tube station a few minutes walk around the corner. Delivery possible during business hours within an hours commute range.
  5. I was looking for a grinder, a complete newbie with a new Gaggia classic when I read this post http://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?8663-grinder-from-quot-coffeechap-quot I contacted him and was equally impressed! One 6 hour (yes 6 hour but it was worth it) return trip to Swindon and I have a lovely refurbished Fiorenzato F5. Love the grinder, great price and as alisingh said its the knowledge help and enthusiasm that really made the trip worthwhile. Really glad I went the commercial refurbished route rather than that cuisinart I was thinking about!
  6. Dimensions & Weight: Height: 19 in Width: 30 in Depth: 20 in Weight: 165 lbs Boiler Capacity: 10L Power: Voltage: 208-240 Phase: Single Max. Power: 4200-5500 Watts 30 Amps La Cimbali M29 Selectron DT2 | Semi-automatic (automatic pump, programmable dose) 2 Espresso Groups, 1 Hot Water outlet, 2 Steam wands, requires a mains connection water supply Refurbished after 18 months use in a low volume coffee shop the following modifications have been made: - Rubber heat seals within group holders have been replaced - Excess steam vent has been linked to the waste pipe to minimise waste - Internal electronic control board has been replaced with a newer model from the manufacturer Signs of wear remain on the cup warming deck (rubber mats) and the hot water outlet, Otherwise this item is in excellent condition, ready for immediate use Retail value: £4,500 GBP, looking for offers in the region of £2,250 GBP plus courier fees if required. Blurb: This machine is elegant, efficient and simple to use, particular attention has been given to ergonomics resulting in safer working conditions for the user with a well-planned layout of controls with clear symbols, ample working space with a generous electric cupwarmer and optimal grip of the balanced filterholders. The groups are equipped with a heat exchanger which improves the thermic balance of the machine in order to always prepare a perfect espresso, whatever the blend of coffee and under any working conditions. Water and steam for hot beverages pass through 2 high-performance multidirectional diffusers for the preparation of creamy cappuccino and other hot beverages, in addition an automatic valve prevents the liquid being heated from being sucked back into the boiler and an electronic device assures the optimum water level in the boiler to reduce energy waste and ensure the machine does not experience a thermic shock. The electronic system within the machine checks main functions, and has built in alarms in the event of internal faults to optimizing any necessary engineer's intervention in case of breakdown. The microprocessor of the electronic system enables the operator to switch the machine on and off automatically, to program the doses for each group, and to easily modify the number of coffees prepared and the electronic components complies with international safety standards. Top quality materials, modern production and control techniques, the care and experience of a company with more than 80 years of espresso coffee machine manufacturing, all combine to ensure the reliability and long service from one of the world's best espresso machines. Available via courier for UK or International delivery (FedEx), buyer may collect if preferred (bedford). Any questions please ask.
  7. Hi, I'm from Argentina and I had a friend traveling to Europe, where he was kind enough to bring me a Rocket Evoluzione Giotto R, he bought it from the official Rocket distributor at the country he was visiting. He was back home 2 days ago and I Installed and setup my machine as per the users manual instructions. Was able to brew a couple shots while dialing my grinder, and a continuous hissing sound started to bother me, it was coming from the cup warmer. Turned off the machine and went online to read about this issue, found it most likely was the pressure relief valve. Removed the top cover and the his was indeed coming from that valve, along with steam and moisture being sprayed to the internals, read a bit more and found that gently tapping the valve might make it seal and so it did, although just temporarily. The title of my thread comes from this: Once I opened the top cover I saw some scale on the boiler ´s insulator, and on the water tank metal cover, will upload pics. Other issue with the machine was NO HOT WATER coming out at all from the hot water wand, with only fixed after removing the shower tip and putting under running water and blowing a big scale amount out of it with my mouth. When opening the machine ´s box as soon as I got my hands on it there was water over the top, most likely from someone putting the box upside down on the travel, not sure if it is normal for rocket to ship machines with water on their circuit, but sounds counter intuitive 100% The machine was listed (and still is) at the dealer ´s web for € 1500, which seemed to me as a steal (no to mention I got a 5% first purchase discount and got 21% VAT back at the airport with a refund ticket), honestly this is the only reason I was able to purchase my dream machine to replace a (busted after just 6 months) Breville Barista express. So, I ended up paying € 1200 ish for it, I even emailed the dealer inquiring if the published price might be an error before purchasing. Adding to this, I filled the tank with bottled water since the first use (nestle, that was the lowest calcium value on all the labels of water I read @ the supermarket.) I phoned the dealer about my issue and told him about all this and he told that all the machines they sold were brand new and that he was shocked to hear about scale being there. I think I would have taken my chances if the machine was published as a refurbished for what I ended up paying, but would feel cheated if it actually is, and it was published, advertised and told by the seller it was brand new after asking for these issues. Would appreciate if any user with the knowledge can confirm it is possible for a brand new machine to ship with water, and if the (actually not that much) scale deposits inside and the Hughe scale build up / clogged hot water wand tip are things that might happen every now and then at a brand new machine. I'm sorry for the post being this long, and hope someone was brave enough to read till here and help. Thanks a lot in advance, Jose.
  8. Complete novice just bought a classic and trying to choose a grinder. I'm making one or two shots a day mostly. A bit of a perfectionist, looking for something that is easy to use ie doesn't make too much mess or waste coffee (will brush it out each shot etc) I don't want anything that will need upgrading if/when I get a better machine. Seems to be between the MC2 and the Eureka though it looks like the Eureka is much better from reviews Any suggestions on a refurbished machine like best places to get one? could do without spending more than £200 Any advice welcome
  9. Hi all, I won't go into it again but my 4 year old De Longi ESAM 4200 has given up the ghost and I am looking to replace it with a new machine, as posted here: http://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?31695-Bean-to-Cup In reading reviews on Amazon, and through my own experience, it appears that irrespective of make (although some are better than others), these machines are not the most reliable and can suffer from a variety of issues that result in sub-standard coffee or failing altogether. Given this, is it wise to look at used machines or maybe refurbished machines where I might get a better quality for machine in my budget ? Thoughts and advice greatly appreciated
  10. 2003 Gaggia Classic starter package. Fully refurbished, this machine had evidently seen little use and came from a soft water area. Despite its age, the boiler had no scale present when I opened it, just a very light dust that came off with a cloth! This model is pre Phillips so has the larger brass solenoid. Being such a lovely machine, I went all out on the refurb: New silicon seals throughout, including silicon Cafelat group seal. New shower screen. All bolts replaced and upgraded to stainless steel. OPV mod and pressure checked at 10 Bar. New Rancilio steam wand. New double basket and backflush basket. Nuova Simonelli adjustable height tamper in original box and only used a few times (Valued at a ridiculous £60) And of course a power lead and silly black plastic spoon included (but not pictured). I have 'de-badged' this machine, as I felt the black printing detracted from the polished case. The only quirk is that the drain pipe sits as an odd angle and misses the hole in the cup plate. I have added a spacer so that it sits level (pictured). Oddly enough all the polished case machines I have seen do the same (including my own) and I can only assume it is a factory assembly problem with the base plate not being completely level, as the case is not warped or bent. I'm asking a premium price simply because this is the best Classic I have ever seen. If it weren't for all the mods done to my current Gaggia, I would be keeping this one for myself! I am happy to sell the machine without tamper for £150. Pickup only in central London, a few minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate tube station. I will not risk posting this machine. ~
