  2. Hello, Need a little help finalizing which of the two to get. (I know the former I can only buy new, but the Silvia I would buy used). With all things being equal (grinder, coffee, workflow, etc) is the shot and steam going to be really that different? I've been a long time Bialetti user and nespresso (for convenience in the morning - but I get specialty roaster pods). But I spend way too much money every day at all the awesome roasters here so its time to learn myself...I'll be making 2-3 cappuccinos max and likely only a couple of times a week (for now). Thoughts ? Than
  3. Hi everyone, I'm just curious, what is the purpose of the screw on top of the grouphead? Could it be used to monitor temperature, or maybe pressure? Temperature is already assessed/managed by MeCoffee, I wouldn't go as far as monitoring the delta with groupehead temperature. On the other hand, I'm considering adding a pressure gauge. I don't want to place the measurement between pump and OPV, as it only measure the OPV setting. I am considering measuring on the steam pipe, I could monitor a manual pre-infusion by the use of steam knob... Or maybe this grouphead screw? Thanks i
  4. My Silvia arrived with a two spout portafilter which I don’t need. Am I right in thinking that this can be unscrewed in a wooden vice and the original spout replaced with a one spout accessory? Much happier now I’ve fitted an Auberins PID to control the temp., and I’ve backed off the pump pressure three flats of the brass hexagon nut. Very happy with Eureka Mignon Specialita. Mornings are now transformed. Any other hints?
  5. Found someone who will take this all off my hands. Lives local too so no postage hassle. Assume all in first class condition. From BB but now just out of warranty. Very little usage, all pristine condition and well maintained. Plus original boxes and instructions. Rancilio Silvia new euro version. (£280) Eureka Mignon my. 2 with new unused burr set, Chrome, (£180) Rancilio two drawer base. (£50.00) So £490 for the lot. Reasonable?
  6. About a year ago I bought the IOS version of Mecoffees PID. Found the installation instruction a bit confusing but managed to get everything to work. (I followed all steps including timer function etc) Everything has worked fine for almost a year but now I’ve run into problems. From time to time I couldn’t get enough steaming pressure and when I looked at meBarista I could see strange differences in temperature. Ie the temperature readings would spell out 200C and seconds after it would say 140C and so on. I thought that the sensor might be broken and because of that order
  7. Hey there! I bought a Rancilio Silvia like a month ago and since then I am trying every weekend to get proper coffee (but this is discussed in a separate thread ). However, last weekend I tried making foamed milk with the steam wand. The first step I always carry out when I turn the machine on, is extracting about 350ml of water through the steam wand (not steaming, just hot water) and a bit of water through the group head- just to exchange the water in the boiler.   9. For sale is my 8 month old Rancilio Silvia. It is in fantastic condition and barely used. It has been maintained regularly and always been kept clean.   10. Hi, I have a 6 yr old Silva from new. Regularly cleaned and descaled and it gives great results. Has never been sent for an external service. Makes 3 brews a day minimum so fair but not excessive use I think. Recently though I noticed clear water dripping down from the group head, coming from the sides of the portafilter holder where the lugs engage with the head. It dilutes the shot to a tasteless liquid. If there is wear on the porta filter lugs it does not show to me, if there is wear on the tapered groove the porta filter twists into, that too is not apparent. If I put the single shot b
  11. This is a great opportunity for someone to purchase a Silvia with provenance! One owned by the mighty @Daren and subsequently by @Slee. It's in good condition and works spot on. It comes with a single, double and blind basket and a spare cafelat group seal. It was regularly backflushed and descaled and looked after by both of the previous owners. The stainless is in great condition as can be seen in the pics, it has small signs of rust in the base, which is fairly simple to treat. £180 collected is preferred, but can be delivered at cost

  14. I don´t want hold back my Silvia reconstruction mod. The Rancilio Silvia PID mod adds a lot of new componets and features to the Rancilio Silvia machine, like touch-display and several sensors.   16. Hi All I am new here and looking forward to future interactions. I had a quick question with my older version (V2 I think) of my Rancilio Silvia Coffee Machine. My shot extraction is under 10 secs and thus I am not getting a good crema anymore. This is including having primed it before, ensuring the water is hot.   19. The LED light in the brew switch has stopped working so I have been looking for a replacement. The only one I could find in the UK is from some seller on Amazon and it goes for £25 plus postage. I sorely resent paying that much for a part that should cost less than a fiver so I am wondering whether any of you has any suggestion.   20. I came across this graph which should have helped me understand the temperature cycles that the Rancilio Silvia goes through from boiler on to boiler off and afterwards. But it has to be wrong, correct? The temperatures seem way too high and the time line is way too off. It looks like if you wait till the boiler turns off for 45 Seconds you will be at around 250 F. Not the 203F that the temperature surfers talk about. Anyone have an accurate temperature profile? This is from a post from 8 years ago on the Silvia V2. Maybe that is the problem?

It's interesting to read about how forum members consider what is a genuine upgrade of a machine. it seems that (starting at the lower end of the spectrum) a Gaggia Classic to a Rancilio Silvia is not an upgrade. Notwithstanding the high proportional increase cost.........but probably not an equivalent improvement in specifications and abilities. If budgets are tight, what is next up from the Rancilio Silvia for a low user. A couple of espresso's and a capuccino per day? Or why bother? What necessitates and upgrade if your needs don't change and your happy with what you have?

It worked like a charm untill i Yesterday where i upgraded the steam Wand and knob from v2-->v3 on my Silvia. I didn't break anything and it was not a Big problem to install it. normally I sat The Auber PID temperature at 95 celcius, and it never got hotter than that. But now today the boiler gets way too warm, when i turn on the machine. And the temperature on the PID says 140 degrees, even though i sat the PID temperature at 95 celci
  23. After spending a few months with the Rancilio Rocky and a cheap Gaggia unit (sub 100€) I recently decided to upgrade to a "serious" espresso machine and bought the new Rancilio Silvia v5 E. Unfortunately I have a couple of issues with it. The main one is that in order to get a 25s shot I need to grind excessively fine, at 1 or 2 on the Rocky (I zeroed it, so that's really fine) and put 15gr of coffee in the double basket. In that way I get 37gr of coffee (so a 1:2.4 ratio). If I wanted to make a ristretto I'd have no clue on how to proceed. The coffee is fresh (roasted less than one month
