Just found the forum and looks like a lot of great information. On my second Gaggia machine at home. I have a jet boil for when I'm camping and I never drink coffee at work because instant is the only option. I would love to learn more about different beans and roasting as I just use supermarket beans at the moment. I live in Dorset and have big problems with limescale build up in the gaggia so I could do with some tips on that if anyone has any. Thanks Bill
  2. Hi All. Its been a while since I posted on here. I have finally got myself a Classic to replace my Cubika! The Classic is in excellent condition and is approx. 4 or 5 years old. The previous owner only used it once a month if that however I would like to give it a good clean and descale. I need some advice on back flushing as this was something you cant do on Cubika. Should I use Puly Caff? I realise I need to get a blank plate to be able to back flush. Also any advice on descaling? Many thanks. Shaun
  3. Fess up time! I've only gone and steeped it in Puly Caff water ! Is it knackered? Would you use it? http://s126.photobucket.com/user/Gregshifi/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20151108_103626_zpsm5padihi.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0
  4. Hello everyone, I have one last Grindripper set (brand new) at £60 including shipping (instead of £65 plus shipping on website) I will also be discontinuing 0.6L teflon coated milk jugs and Puly Caff Verde Group Head Cleaner. Before I post the sale prices on the website, I would like to give coffee forum members the opportunity first. I have 11 of the 0.6L Teflon Coated Milk Jug. Colour is black and volume is 0.6L/600ml. These are sold at 19.99 each. For coffee forum members, I will sell these at £15 including shipping. I have 12 of the Puly Caff Verde Group Head Cleaner(510g) and instead of £10, it will be £7.50 including shipping. Shipping will be Royal Mail Signed for. If you wish to collect it (epsom or SE london), I will deduct the shipping cost (£3.99) Thanks and have a great day
  5. I have had my Gaggia Classic for a couple of years and it seems to have functioned pretty well after a few initial teething problems. However, I set about cleaning it on Friday, using Puly Caff as usual in the blanking basket. This requires me to carry out 5 brew cycles of 10 seconds, with 10 seconds between them. After each of the first 3 cycles there was the satisfying 'whoosh' of water into the drip tray but, after that, nothing at all - it all went quiet! Since then I have had consistently wet pucks when I have drawn shots and the water pressure seems to have dropped dramatically. Could any one advise me as to whether this means the 3-way solenoid has failed and needs replacing (and if so how) or do I have another problem? Where would I obtain another solenoid if it does need replacing? Thanks in advance for any assistance
  6. Hi I have 8 tubs of Puly Caff cleanig tablets 100 x 1 grm at £8.00 per tub plus £1.50 postage if anyones interested. let me know.
  7. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Do I need to buy 2 different products, 1 to clean my espresso machine and 1 to de-scale my machine, or does one product do both jobs? From reading, it appears that I need 2 different products (eg. Puly Caff (cleaning) and Puly Baby (de-scaling)). Am i correct? Thanks guys Andy
  8. My Classic is making clicking noises when the coffee starts to come out & water spurts down the outside of the 'solenoid/overflow pipe'. What is causing this? Regards, Dennis
  9. I have tried to clean these by back flushing , the only way that seems to work is with a pin to push them out has anyone ideas as to how i can "dissolve" or otherwise remove these many thanks
  10. Whilst I am putting together the group buy for the Gaggia Classic brass dispersion plates I can also get hold of Puly Caff or Cafiza 900g tubs for £6 plus postage, I can also source the Rancilio Steam wand to fit the Gaggia Clasic for ~£15. I can also get hold of many other types of grinder burrs and parts for both grinders and machines as well as the IMS baskets and shower screens. Please pm with anything not listed on here for the bits listed here please add yourself to the Gaggia dispersion block thread where there is a list done in the same way as the raffle lists. Charlie
  11. I was just wondering, I had my Silvia over 2 years now, on 3 occasions I descaled it. I realize only now that I was using the wrong product, Cafiza to descale it. Will that have any affect on the machine? I have now purchased some Puly sachets to use, and will keep the Cafiza for its proper use, group head cleaning
  12. Hi Folks, Just bought a second hand Gaggia classic from eBay, it is an older made in Italy polished chrome model with the limited addition colored metal Gaggia badge/Logo on the front. The seller advised it has been in their loft for years and prior to that didn't see much use. All looks good and most pleased with it so far. Very shiny and only slight evidence of coffee residue in the group head and basket. After flushing a couple of tanks of fresh water through, it made a (to my uneducated palate!) very nice espresso and latte, but figured i should give it a good clean and descale to start as i mean to go on... I ordered some puly caff cleaner, blanking plate and some puly cafe descaler and am waiting for them to arrive, my question, as per the thread title - which should i used first? the descaler or the cleaner? Thanks!
  13. Potentially dumb puly caff question, but if you wanted to soak the portafilter do you need to remove the plastic handle first or is it safe? Time for an overdue spring clean!
  14. OK everyone, I've had my Silvia for a good two months now (maybe even a bit longer) and the time has come for me to descale and back flush. I have got some sachets of Puly Caff and intend to soak the portafilter and drip tray overnight. Which should I do first the back flush or the descale?
  15. Since my expo is only a few weeks old, got me thinking today about how perhaps my flush timing needs to change compared to my old Cherub. With the francino it had no pre-infusion and therefore the 10 seconds purging cycle (x5) with cleaner was fine. But with the pre-infusion on the Brewtus, should I/we be leaving the cycling to perhaps 20 seconds to give the machine enough to ramp up to pressure to get the detergent cleaning more effectively?
