  1. I've had the E8 since 08/15 and haven't used it at all for the past two years. I got a Lido E in 12/15 and took the Ceado out of service sometime towards the end of Jan 16 while intending to fit it with a arduino timer but I could never be bothered to solder all the parts together, make a custom lid for the doser and perform other modifications to make it easy and quick to use. Fast forward two years (after using the Ceado a couple of times since) and I get a Pharos which I'm very happy with. I think I should probably sell the Ceado, especially before the Niche comes out and this forum is flooded by similar grinders...but for some reason I don't want to part with it, despite knowing it's just going to sit there.... Then I realise why, and it's because in the back of my mind I've always thought about the burr carrier mounted to the motor and it being one independent unit. The E8 is the same as the E37s, just in a larger case with a doser. So I got to thinking recently, why can't I just remove the motor and create a mount for the entire thing? I could mount it on an angle to help with single dosing, fit it with a removable exit chute to clear the grinds. The entire assembly is no more than 15 cm tall and about 12/13 cm deep, with a barebones setup, and the electronics mounted into a small enclosure (capacitor, power connection etc) it could be a really compact large flat burr grinder. What I have in mind is to suspend the motor and assembly between two aluminium plates by attaching it to an axle that would allow the grinder to be tilted with a lever (to facilitate removal of grinds from the chamber and exit chute and to possibly mount it on slight angle while in use). I'm creating this thread to invite tips, input, criticism, and to put the idea out there for people who have Ceados with dosers that they might be able to convert them into something more kitchen friendly, and who knows maybe even people with the E37s and similar might think about doing the same if it's successful. I'm not sure how well Mazzers will do with this idea as I have no idea how their burr carriers and motors are built, but the Ceado's is really nice and seems safely enclosed.
  2. A few might remember a little while ago I happened upon a pair of Mazzers for £80! (yes, that's right - not a typo..) The ad said "Mazeer cofee grinders.expresso italiano. Parts missing. Spares or repairs £80 ono". Decided there and then to drive the 3 hour round trip to pick them up. The chap said the phone hadn't stopped ringing all morning, all asking to post. Plugged them in and tried them. "Large one didn't work, hopper was off" (I just agreed). "Small one worked but top seized". Said I "could maybe swap parts around to make a good one?" sounded good to me.. Put them safely in my car and headed home.. Was I happy? Oh so slightly.... Once home I set about the Major.. First thing was to plug it in and fit the hopper. Flicked the switch and it purred into life. Big grin time. Next was to unplug it and check the burrs for wear.. They look badly tarnished, shouldn't they be a nice dull silver colour? Probably best chuck 'em and buy some new ones, That seams to be the usual advice.. Hmmm.. Next do the wiring mod. Don't need auto fill (keeping the bits though). Fitted the jumper wire. Hasn't been cleaned in ages.. Did I mention it hadn't been cleaned in ages? Maybe never? The Major is all cleaned up now. All except the doser mech as I couldn't get the lower vanes out. The bolt was too tight to shift (I did remove the pin as well). Left it as is as I didn't want to break anything. The doser mech is a little stiff but works fine. It was seized when I got it home. Took the hopper off the mount, very handy as a single doser as you can close it (keeps muck out as well). Means I don't have to fiddle with electrics to bypass the shut off switch.

    AnZa Coffee?

Hello everybody, just stumbled upon this here project: https://www.anzacoffee.com/ While it focuses on styling and artistic integration into living space, they might have forgotten about contacting @DavecUK for technical questions. Way down on this page there's some specs: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/anza-redefining-espresso-in-concrete-and-corian-coffee#/ Nevertheless, an interesting approach! Now, I'd like to see more different looks on serious equipment... Stainless alone can't be the end of the line
  4. An X vending machine boiler with a few extras, opened it all up and really surprised how clean it is internally, it's a one litre capacity boiler after heater element displacement. Boiler. Element 240v. 2500w Electric valve 240v. Variable Control Temperature Control (Power off on the rise). Overheat safety cut out switch attached to the boiler. Have stripped and powered the element OK, electric valve OK, variable heat control OK, the safety overheat has a circuit and appears not to have been operated, so all good to go and any final high end testing in their project is the responsibility of the purchaser. £65.00 including postage.
  5. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/iberital-coffee-machine-/162436979383?hash=item25d1ff9ab7:g:ZW4AAOSwOgdYzk8q Could be a fairly easy fix I reckon and cheap too provided the main board is not affected
  6. Hello, I'd welcome some thoughts on this, please. Basically, talk sense! I've got an old Mythos sitting waiting for some attention. It's been bashed about a little; the lugs that hold the plastic front on are snapped. (Fairly straightforward to work around.) But it works okay. I've half a mind to make it look nice, chop the hopper down, and use it as my second grinder. (Or maybe first!) to complement the Royal. Is this nuts? Is it likely to be any good?
  7. I will take a punt and say that there should be a few interchangeable parts https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-kitchen-appliances/2-commercial-coffee-machines-/1187018348 Personally I quite like the Ducale like aesthetic and noticed these are manual machines so no electronic pads to go wrong (probably) If not an early Ducale model I don't know what they are though.
