  1. I came across this a few weeks ago and I am considering making an offer on it with a view to a refurb project. Can someone tell me the model and a realistic offer price on a 'sold as seen', on the basis that the motor is good but the rest needing a total refurb. The sticker is unreadable from the original pic. Can it be adapted to be used without a portafilter and grind coarser then espresso? Thank you in advance.
  2. Hi, there is a seller near me that is selling both a SJ & Major that are 5 years old and asking £260 & £275 respectively. The Major has had new burrs fitted but doesn't feature a drip tray and the SJ burrs are about a year old. Both say they've been used at home for the last year and both have a few cosmetic marks that don't concern me, it seems reasonably easy enough to have the casing repainted if I wanted to. Height in my kitchen wont be a problem, I have a spot for either Do either of these seem like a good buy? I'm struggling to understand the second hand pricing on
  3. Good morning, Thinking that the time has come to move from doser to on demand. Have thought long and hard about modding but not so sure it makes sense for me. I would like to stick to Mazzer SJ as I know them and have 3 sets of new burrs in the cupboard. My question (and it is a daft one) is whilst looking around for best deal some are listed as burrs (as I would expect) and some are listed as blades, is this just a failure to update the headings on the spec sheet or do these also come with blades. Thanks.

Reading around, I like the sound of an HX machine such as the Fracino Cherub because of its ability to brew and steam virtually simultaneously and apparent value for money. How
  5. Hi I've seen a Fracino Classic that looks fairly clean and reconditioned on ebay (apologies for not posting this in the "seen in ebay" section, I'm still too much of a newbie to be allowed in there! Can someone tell me the going rate for one of these machines as I reckon the one on ebay is a little over priced. Also - I'm getting conflicting information dependent when I try to research - is it a true E61 group? Many thanks Elliot
  6. I've been hovering the forums for a while, getting information on where to start to get into making coffee at home and have decided to go for the Sage DTP (and eventually separate grinder). However looking at the current prices it seems the cheapest it can be bought for is around £314 (Go Electrical) with most of the well known places like John Lewis being £328 and Lakeland being much more expensive at £380. However I spotted this thread on HUKD where Lakeland were price matching other retailers at £229 from only a couple of months ago: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sage-duo
  7. FYI, unfortunately site now says 1900
  8. Hi im considering buying a second hand gaggia 150. Does anyone know what I should be paying for one? many thanks
  9. I have seen one of these for £120, is that a good price? I am looking at one of these as my first 'proper' Grinder, can someone tell me if that is a good price and also the difference between the MDX and MDX-A? Thanks!
  10. Hi, I've managed to barter the seller down to £170 including postage for a Fiorenzato F5. Is it worth the price? The item is from Sofia, Bulgaria, which concerns me a little bit (but his English is perfect and he refers to things in pounds, so not sure if he is an ex-pat). I don't know much about this grinder but I've read that its of similar quality to a Mazzer Super Jolly, what do you guys think... shall I go for it or hold off? Cheers, Rich
  11. From James Hoffmann's blog, data by Alexa http://www.jimseven.com/2015/04/22/the-price-of-coffee-in-london-2015-edition/ Who is charging £3 for an espresso?
  12. So what are the main criteria, the things that are important to you, is it price, function aesthtics, ease of maintenance, the quality of the drink. How do you balance your decisions with one machine vs another. Are there things manufacturers should be adding to the machines, functions, hardware, other...
  13. Mrboots - split from the Rave Roasters thread... a question re current offers from a roaster, prompted some discussion on the price coffee is bought for and prices bewtween different beans and roasters ..... I think watching this film if you get an opportunity would be a good thing http://afilmaboutcoffee.com
  14. Right guy, another discussion has started to ramble on a different thread, so want to funnel it into here. Drink prices has long been a real thorn in my side. When I started at Coffee Aroma, I didn't really mind the £2 we charge per most coffees. However with increased knowledge, realisation of our workload, and understanding of coffee prices, I started to get annoyed. We were slowly becoming the cheapest coffee shop in town. Cheaper than the chains that buy cheap coffee, use the most efficient and cheapest method of coffee production, and cut corners in many places. I had a rea
  15. Hi everyone Can you help? I've got a Mazzer Super Jolly I'm thinking of selling. It's in pretty close to perfect nick, has the hopper, tray, and all the other bits and pieces intact. How much is a reasonable price to ask for it?
  16. I've found someone who is selling a quickmill andreja premium and he's said he'd want about £600 for it. It's five years old, but hasn't been used for a few years. the issue is, it's an American model, so I would need a us to uk step down transformer which I believe would be about £100 on top. Does that seem a bit much to be spending on it with the transformer? I was thinking £600 would have been an OK price if it was a uk machine or am I wrong there?
