  1. I have a nespresso machine at work. I don't much like the coffee I get out of it but needs must. It's time to place a new order so I'm going to test whether I can improve things by changing the pods. Does anyone have experience with alternative brands of pod? It's a basic nespresso machine and I tend to drink a sort of poor man's flat white: 1 or 2 short shots with half a cup of lightly microwaved milk. I also think it can be improved by stopping the shot short. I've used loads of nespresso's own branded pods and not felt much love for any of them, frankly, so I haven't noted down wh
  2. Earlier today, a friend posted a picture on social media showing a large pile of Nespresso™ style capsules she had been given to try. What she undoubtedly saw as good coffee, I saw as an environmental disaster, and I said so. Her reply was 'they're aluminium' as though that made everything right, because they could be recycled. That took no account of the energy required to produce the aluminium in the first place. As a scientist, it got me thinking. It seems that each Nespresso™ capsule contains 5-6g of coffee and 1g of aluminium. Given that my regular mug is made with 28g of coffee

  4. As above - bought these to try - and concluded that although these are the closest I've got - Nespresso (in all it's forms) just isn't my bag. The full pack is 40 capsules and £26 posted. This is 31 capsules. Most of the nine are taken from the least expensive of the three coffees, so I'm left with: 9 (out of 10) of the Carmen Est. Geisha Panama. 15 (out of 20) of the Cavla Colombian. 7 (out of 10) of the Nano Challa Ethiopian. £26 divided by 40 capsules is 65p 31 x 65p is £20.15 So - how about £18 including postage?
  5. My wife and I love coffee, especially flat whites but we are both students and will leave the UK in 2 years. Around a year ago we bought De'Longhi ec330 and had a terrible experience. We went through 3 of them before giving up. They simply wouldn't last. We just came from visiting friends in Spain and having a coffee after every meal was really nice. All of our friends were using Nespresso pods and the coffee was consistently good and so convenient. My wife and I are looking at the Inissia models with the Aeroccino and I'm a bit confused. KRUPS and MAGIMIX seem to make identical mode
  6. Hi folks been asked to advise a friend on the best use of this Delonghi which he will be buying for Christmas for his wife. He seems set on it and as such I would like to help in a positive way. I notice the pressure is 15 bar it also has a gasket inside the basket so I am wondering what to say as I am not sure. As the pressure seems to high and the gasket in the basket is something I am not familiar with. It can be used also with ESE and other pods so is this the best use of it with the pressure being as high regular espresso would not be great either? Any help appreciated.
  7. I have been handed an empty box that contained Nespresso Roma Capsules/Pods, and asked to find out where the best place is to buy these. The question has been posed on behalf of my wife's work colleague who has a Nespresso machine at home. Web links would be appreciated as mail order is her preferred purchase method The best link is now here
  8. Christmas time is approaching and I have been thinking of purchasing a coffee machine for my grlfriend and the pods seem like a good place to start because: Shes a messy bugga and i will be left to tidy everything up The quicker the better, she is terrible at gettin out of bed but still needs a morning fix Price With this in mind i have been looking at the Krups range and would like your thoughts on the following machines; Krups Dolce Gusto Circolo 15 Bar Krups Dolce Gusto KP200640
  9. I want to buy a coffee machine for my husband's birthday. He likes to drink americano when we go out, and would like to make them at home....he had one of those senseo things that used pods but wasn't impressed with it. I can only afford to spend about £200. Have been looking at reviews and there are just so many to choose from...I need guidance! Some reviews say the machines make good expresso but the water isn't hot enough for an americano? I am lost...if anyone can help it would be most appreciated
  10. Hi all.... I keep seeing referances to a special Portafilter basket for use with Pods..... could someone please tell me where to obtain one for the Gaggia Classic as I have some pods and would like to try them out. Please help.... Frederick
  11. Hi all....as a very raw learner I am finding it very difficult to choose the brand of coffee.... there is an endless list of them. I am the only one in the house that drinks coffee so that brings up another question. Firstly... what would be the best first coffee to get... ground or pods and what brand. My machine is a gaggia classic. Secondly... as I am the only coffee drinker... how should I store the coffee.. in the fridge... in an airtight container or one of those containers that one can draw the air from. My initial thought is to go for Pods but I do not know how the Classic would
