  1. Hi all, I was wondering if there are any of the OPV pressure testers knocking around before I go and source the parts and build my own. I don't mind paying postage here and back if someone is willing to lend me one? or info as to where I could get the parts would also be good! Thanks, Lee
  2. Looking for a complete gaggia classic OPV, like the below if anyone has one spare, or an old classic sitting around. Up to £15 posted. Thanks
  3. Hello. First post and new to taking coffee seriously. I've just been bought a new (2015) Gaggia Classic. It was a gift and I can't really change it, although I know a used older model may have been better. Now I can live with the lack of the 3-way solenoid valve, and the steel tank is probably no bad thing, but I only just realised that there is no adjustable OPV valve. Bugger! I assume they will ship with higher pressures for the ESE pods. Has anyone tested a new Classic to see the default pressure at the group head? If it is too high, will this totally ruin my attempts to make proper espresso without the pressurised basket? If I have 10-11 bar at the group head (instead of the 9 I'd want), is there anything I can do to the tamp or the grind of the coffee to compensate and improve the shot? Can this machine still make a decent (if not great) espresso, or am I totally stuck with a dud? Thanks.
  4. Evening all, im not sure if this is necessary as there seems to be a couple of gauges doing the rounds, with varying levels of success, but I completed my OPV mod on my classic this evening and the gauge is now available should anyone want to borrow it. its just the gauge, not the complete handle as this would make postage a little excessive. Fitting to your existing portafilter is simple enough, you may just need a vice/brute strength and ignorance to break the threadlock on your spout. (I wedged mine in the gap between 2shelving units then used the handle as leverage and it unscrewed with no effort) my OPV required significantly more than a 3/4 anti clockwise turn to bring it down to pressure, but the difference was significant. Edit: Please follow these directions If you'd like to borrow the gauge: To anyone who wants to use the gauge, please don't ask others to add you to the list, as administration becomes something of an overhead, simply repost the latest version of the list (if there is one), with your name at the bottom. When you're done with the gauge, repost the latest version with yourself removed and confirmation that you've posted on to the next recipient. If there is no current list, please DM the current holder with your details, and post a message saying you've done so.
  5. Hi there guy's! Firstly I'm a new member so hello! OK, I tested the static pressure on my 2006 gaggia classic (that I just bought) and it was off the scale at above 14 bar. So I watched all the videos and read the guides on opv adjustment and purchased a 17mm socket, but I can't get the top of the opv off. It just won't budge even when using a lot of force. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure I have the right tools. I just thought I'd check on here because I don't want to damage anything inside the machine. Many thanks, Tom.
