  1. Has anyone been here? Great coffee supplied by square mile roasters and made on a La Marzocca. cool decor too. Bout time NW London had somewhere decent to go for coffee.
  2. Hi I hope I am posting this in the right forum! We are setting up a New Coffee Shop, its quite small so I expect to sell anywhere between 40 and 100 coffees per day and would expect no more than say 20 in any 1 hour period. I am thinking of a 2 group machine but have no idea of what boiler capacity to go for? I was thinking of spending around £4000 and hope to have it installed for this. Any suggestions out there. Oh and I also need a couple of grinders, regular and decaf! Cheers G
  3. Me and my husband have experience in hospitality industry. We have been working the past years for some hotels and restaurants. Last year, we have decided that is time to start something on our own and a coffee shop will be the right choice to begin the business. We have done a lot of research about the coffee, suppliers, location. There are so many coffee shops out there and we though we can make a little different our business and sell some wine and alcohol coffee as well. My question is what kind of premises license we need: A1 or A3? We intend to sell some hand-crafted sandwiches and fresh snacks. We have found some good locations with A1 license ( the lease price is very convenient) and the landlords are ok with the business that we want to do, but the food and safety regulations require A3 license. What should we do? Any advice is welcomed! Thank you!
  4. Hi All. This is likely to be my first of many. I,m about to take over a new coffee shop and don't have money or staff to get it started . Isn't this exciting and i don't even drink coffee (honest Doctor)! I have just filled in a topic in the Introductions bit which covers how im in this mess but just a quick re-cap. It also has other business with an income etc so im not on a commercial suicide mission, the coffee shop opening was to be delayed until i had enough capital to kick start it. But it seems such a waste of potential income. It comes with New tables chairs, refrigerated display unit (for cakes?), cups saucers, spoons etc.. even a Metal thing with glass jugs for keeping coffee warm. But no stock and no coffee maker. so I will start with "what type of Coffee Machine" On the offset, i simply want to provide a "pay at the counter and help yourself" type system, obviously if im not tied up ill will serve, but i can justify extra staff for this from the offset. Ideally with a Take away system so the tourists can grab a cake n cofee and carry on touring the town. I'm told Bean to cup is the way to go. But im not sure what a bean to cup is capable of. I have seen many used machines available, some look and sound very good but say "cant do chocolate " so it would help to know what people want to buy as a rule so that i can find something that will do the main items. Can bean to cup do such things as Mocha and hot choclate and if so, what type of machine? For peace of mind. next year I hope to get the training and Lauch this as a full service shop with Big frothy gurgle steamer system & Ice-cream counter featuring Mountain sized Coffee madness with local teranean names. I cant wait to drive my first Steam driven Snowdon Chocca chug-a-lotty though the Welsh Marsh (mellows) Crispy toffee valley and the chocolate Forrest of Merlins... sorry getting carried away here... um yes, what type of coffee machine?
  5. So glad I found this place, as my head is all over the place lol I am coming out of the Army after 26 years, and due to injury was set for a boring career in management. I get a bit of money from the Army which I was going to use to set my wife up in a dog grooming business, refurb the house and maybe treat myself to a nice v8. After looking at the figures for dog grooming they didn't really add up, so started the search for the car and started getting quotes for an extension, garage, new bathroom and Kitchen. Then 6 weeks ago I found a disused hairdressers 5 mins from my house, opposite a park and it seems like the ideal location for a "posh" coffee shop. So I sat outside the place at various times from 0700hrs-0900hrs counting traffic/foot fall and speaking to locals. As a result of that I've applied for planning permission to change its use (A1 to A3) and am currently waiting on that being approved, have negotiated the terms of the lease, and am trying to get as much stuff in place now, without spending silly money (In case the change of use is not approved) My sister in law, my wife and me are doing it together, with my 16 year Daughter helping out in between college. Our budget for everything is 35 K and we are hoping to be open in the 1st week of May. I've been visiting coffee shops all over the place (I'm still in the Army, so travel around) and know the theme I want, got a supplier sorted (Coffee) getting plumbers, electicians and general builders in a the moment. I will trawl the site looking for answers to the basics, counter heights, plumbing requirements etc, but please be prepared to see posts about things that are common knowledge to "coffee people" as until 6 weeks ago, I had no idea my life was going to take this route. In time I hope to be able to give back to the forum. Scary but exciting times ahead
