1. Hi, For anyone interested, I'm selling a new 54mm Sage Bottomless Portafilter, ordered from Sage and hand machined for £46.50. These have a unique group fitting, only for use on Sage and Breville 54mm coffee machines like the Duo Temp Pro. I believe it's also compatible with these machines... BES810, BES840, BES860 and BES870. Please check compatibility with your machine though. A friend of mine with a Sage Duo Temp Pro expressed a lot of interest in having a bottomless portafilter like the one I was using on my Rocket. Without thinking I sung the praises of bottomless portafilters... They're great for figuring out how to make fantastic shots, diagnosing shot issues and the coffee only ever touches your basket and your cup. Once you've got your shot dialled in, there's less cleaning and dripping over your worktop, and of course... it's a unique and enjoyable way to make coffee. However, the small flaw in my sales pitch came about when he mentioned that he'd looked everywhere and Sage and Breville only sell a bottomless portafilter for their top of the range 58mm machines, and the only way to get a bottomless portafilter for the unique 54mm group head was to buy a custom made one or make one yourself... So weeks later, and more conversations about bottomless portafilters, I decided to surprise him and order a new portafilter from Sage, and machine it myself as I fortunately have all of the metalworking tools required. He was blown away with the result, so mission successful, and he suggested that I sell these online as there are probably others like him. So here we are!
2. The pros and cons of using a naked Portafilter crops up from time and there is a suspense-ridden thread just started by GrahamS: http://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?30914-Place-your-bets while we wait to see how far up his kitchen wall and along his floor he can get his first naked PF shot. I assume entirely by coincidence, today's Perfect Daily Grind provide a non-scientific review of four reasons to go naked - but it's still an entertaining read: http://www.perfectdailygrind.com/2016/03/espresso-machine-mods-4-reasons-use-naked-portafilter/?utm_source=Website+Subscribers&utm_campaign=deae6b0f6f-April_5_Newsletter4_5_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e5c3eb4dc6-deae6b0f6f-153460069
3. I recently bought a Gaggia CLassis (older one not the new one) and it came with the pressurised filters. Looking to replace so I can get a better pour but wondered what people recommended? I really like the naked style / bottomless ones...
4. Got this for Xmas, only switched to E61 machine now. Pristine condition. http://www.bellabarista.co.uk/naked-porta-filter-holder-for-gaggia.html £20 delivered
5. As per the description, I've got a couple of E61 bottomless/naked portafilters - brand new, never used and with triple baskets. N.B One now sold, one available at this price. (Edited by Rob666) Lovely and shiny, removed from the packing for the sake of photographing - but back in it now... £25 + postage at cost (which will probably be small parcel territory at around £3-£4) Shades Photos below:
6. Hi all. I'm new to this forum and I'm very much a newbie when it comes to home coffee, but I've done a lot of research and I'm keen to dig deeper and though you guys may be the best peeps to ask Up until today, my coffee evolution has taken me from Illy pre-ground in a french press, to owning a few Bialetti Venus brewers (still in use), getting a Hario Skerton and decent beans (e.g. SquareMileCoffee)... modifying the Hario to remove burr wobble .... then canning it because it was still a pain in the ass at 6am when I really needed to be in the shower ..... Replacing the Hario with a Mahlkonig Vario which I've loved using and tweaking and reading the different grinds with beans from different sources and ages. And that's where I've been for the last couple of years. Making half decent coffee from my perc machines and frothing warm milk from the microwave with a mini electric whisk. But I still kept researching and although my current method is working well, I still had the craving to move up to making proper espresso based drinks at home .... and eventually I caved and my first ever espresso machine arrived yesterday. I'm overly happy right now ... and it's just a wee DeLonghi EC680 New in the DeLonghi range and almost identical to the EC860, but teeny tiny at only 15cm wide. I get that it's probably seen as naff and/or low-brand considering the present company, but I have virtually no room in my kitchen and buying an all singing and dancing machine right now would be like giving a Ferrari to a new driver. It's my first machine, so if I can make a good brew with a cheaper machine it then upgrading in the future can only make it better. Which is why I'm looking to replace the pressurised baskets as soon as I can and get hold of depressurised ones as well as a naked (bottomless?) portafilter to use with them to help me improve my grind and tamping technique. I've looked around the interweb and haven't been able to find anywhere that I can get some. I'm hoping there is something off the shelf I can use so I don't have to dig out a micrometer and 'jimmie' something to fit. If anyone could help in this next step in my brew evolution, that I'll be eternally grateful (or at least until after the caffeine wears off ) Ta CW
7. Gaggia Classic Pre Philip - Heavily Modded (PID, OPV, IMS shower screen, Silvia Wand, bottomless PF, IMS double filter) - £200 ono inc postage Machine was stripped and rebuilt and descaled this week I did notice that after the descale the steam wand may not be fully closing but this really is minimal when at steam temp and I assume with passing more water it would close fully again as it worked perfectly before. This comes with a lot of extras to list for this so will do my best but everything you see is included. Motta 58mm Tamper 2 xGaggia portafilters Bottomless portafilter Backflushing blank filter 2 x Original Gaggia double filter baskets 1 X 21g filter Basket (Came with Bottomless unknow make) 1 X IMS 12/18G Filter Basket Original Steam Wand Original Shower Screen Original Double and Single Pressurised filters and creama device Original Spare Pump Original Classic "Spoon" Now has a MrShades enclosure, cables tidied etc
8. Hi we have two ECM PF handles, a double and single spout... only the double spout really ever gets used, with the single just with the blind filter permanently attached. I was wondering how easy it would be to grind out the bottom of the PF, and if there is anyone on here who is particularly good at doing this, who might consider doing it for me, for due consideration? Robert
9. After reading plenty of posts, watching plenty of instructional videos and over a good dozen attempts at using a naked portafilter, I'm still struggling to avoid coffee spraying everywhere. Now I'm assuming it's down to a combination of the grid (using a 'hacked' delonghi), tamping, and the amount of coffee causing it. But is there a method to the madness that I'm missing? Any help is appreciated.
10. I'm after a good portafilter for my machine. i have one already, but it cups around the base of the basket far too much. When using an 18g basket the outer droplets that form always end up running around the rim and down the bloomin handle! What a mess!!! looking at pics online, others seem to be much more open, allowing the droplets to merge normally. Recommendations welcome.
11. I'm selling a bottomless PF with non-pressurised double basket and deep blank basket (both from Happy Donkey). It's not had much use (truth be told, I don't think I've ever used the double basket) so it's in great condition. £25 for the lot, which includes P&P. Picture of the blank basket to follow.
12. Hi- a quick bit of advice please! My equipment is a Gaggia Classic with the OPV set and a Mazzer Super Jolly. I am using a naked portafilter, WDT and skimming the top with minimal compression (sorry not weighing my dose). I am tamping at about 13-14kg according to my incredibly scientific bathroom scales. I'm getting good extraction, flavour and crema but I'm only getting 30ml (in about 20-25sec) before it blondes. The beans are probably old (I bought them from myespresso with no roast date) but not the worst. Should I grind coarser and tamp harder? I tried tamping at about 11-12kg and the puck was breaking up. I have new beans from Square Mile on their way here now so that may tell me something. Or is this whole thing just a 'if it tastes right its fine scenario'?? Thanks
13. Hi All, Haven't had my Gaggia Classic and Mazzer SJ for very long, and im still learning for sure and today I pulled my first shot with a naked portafilter and I thought it was going really well and then boom disaster strikes! So im thinking, finer grind but what about tamping? Does this shot show any signs of bad/wrong tamping? Oh and I should mention, im using a prestige bag of coffee beans, purchased fresh from Tesco today (Costa Coffee) so i'm not expecting great crema to say the least
14. Hi Guys, Very excited, have managed to score a used Gaggia Classic but it only came with the standard portafilter and pressurised baskets. I'm looking for: - Naked portafilter with double basket - Blind filter for blackflushing I know I can find them online but I'd much rather put my money in the hands of people on the forum. Many thanks in advance, Baristapprentice
15. As per other thread - I have the following for sale: 1 x Black handled Naked portafilter handle - fits Gaggia classic and Fracino Piccino - plus possibly others - £15 - sold to rws 1 x wooden handled "two spout" portafilter handle - fits Gaggia classic and Fracino Piccino - plus possibly others - £25 Postage at cost https://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?39076-PF-handles-Naked-and-double-spout-(Wooden-handle)
16. I'm selling a naked portafilter for a La Pavoni Millennium. It comes with the spring clip but without a basket. It's about five years old and has been lightly used (about 200 shots). The handle is stuck to the portafilter. You should be able to unscrew it, but I can't. Obviously this doesn't affect it's functionality but it does mean that you wouldn't be able to swap the handle at a later date. I'd like £35 plus £3 UK postage. I'll wrap it in bubblewrap and post it in a cardboard box.
17. I'm looking to either sell this (I'll say £40 plus delivery) or swap for another naked portafilter (no basket needed) if anyone bought one but isn't into it. I never really use the spouted one so I'd rather have a spare naked one to go with my current one. Photos can be sent tomorrow if need be but as I'm looking at someone who already has one and wants an extra one, hopefully you know what it looks like. Solid, stainless steel, does the job nicely - enough said.
18. As per title, I'm interested in a naked pf for my Brewtus IV, which one is the best fitting and who sells them? A while back I think I read somewhere on another thread that at least one naked pf available doesn't lock in at a 6 o'clock position as does the standard double spout pf supplied with the machine. Would prefer if it locked in at 90 degrees if possible. Thanks.
19. Standard ordeal, two used portafilters for sale with the e61 fitment, both with springs but no basket. There both real nice PF's just been making too many bike purchases to warrant them sitting around, I wouldn't need too much persuasion to add my 14g LM Strada basket into the mix either really. I don't think £25 (left - no chrome stripe) and £28 (right - *chrome stripe on handle) plus post is too bad - extra £10er and I'll post whichever you want with the strada basket. Any questions just fire away... Cheers, Callum *editted a silly typo .... duuuurrrrrrrrrr
20. Hi, I'm new to the forum and have already found lots of useful information. I just putting together my home setup, pretty sure I'm going for an ECM. During my research I have noticed that many use a bottomless portafilter, is this something that is recommended to finesse my technique or should the money be spent elsewhere. Thanks
21. Hi All, After a naked/bottomless portafilter for my Gaggia Classic and a double basket
22. Bottomless E61 portafilter. Two handles Bakelite & NBR Rubber. The bottom plate is held into the main body with a silicone O-ring. Inserted whilst cold the plate is firmly gripped & held as it heats up. Beautifully made in stainless steel. These PFs sell on Amazon at anything up to £250 but are available at Bella Barista for £95 including VAT & postage. I purchased this one from a well respected Forum Member a few weeks ago prior to confirming the sale of my Vesuvius. Unfortunately it does not fit my new machine. Am offering the PF as described £40 delivered. Includes everything except the shown double spout
23. Had enough water let in my Pavoni for one last cup. Already made a few which went ok (inc. a vid which decided to focus on the wall behind.. ) Anyway, ground, stirred and tamped but it looks off. Wasn't entirely happy with the tamp etc. but pulled it anyway to see the effect and show why a naked/bottomless pf is worth getting. For some reason my iPhone decided to go slow-mo shortly into this, hence the length, but it sounds great and works well as a slow-mo. Except for the damn washing machine finishing and beeping which spoils it.. ) When I looked at the puck in the pf afterwards, there was a crack on the edge nearest the camera and a delve on that side showing channelling down the side and an uneven extraction. To say that, it didn't taste too bad. Better shots will follow, and hopefully a video that decides to behave itself. The slow-mo sounds great though, with only the sound of the coffee hitting the glass (apart from the damn beeping part way through..)
24. Selling my home coffee setup due to upgrade. Gaggia baby class with Silvia steam wand, cosmetically not at its best but mechanically perfect. I bought it from a forum member about a year ago, in the same condition but without the steam wand. Just had a backflush and clean, new shower plate fitted a week ago, and always used bottled water. Pulling great espressos. Comes with normal portafilter. I include a 58mm Motta tamper and small milk jug. The price is £40 only! I know I could ask for at least double this price for a Gaggia Baby with silvia wand and tamper, but I want a quick sale, and I am aware that the corrosion shown in pictures is an important aesthetic factor. Collection in London SW11 only. SOLD:Naked/Bottomless portafilter with double basket: £17 inc. delivery SOLD:Made by Knock flat 58.5 tamper, black ceramic steel base, walnut handle and La Marzzoco precision basket (2 months old): £30 inc. delivery
25. Coffechap set this shot up, I just took photos! Also using a 18g VST basket.
