  1. Thank you to everyone that has expressed interest on my SJ gauge. To make life easy, I have started this thread to get some dimensions for the Mazzer Major since I don't have one to play with I am needing some assistance! Thanks to @urbanbumpkin, @koi, @MooMaa who have offered to help so far. If there is anyone in central London with a Major who wont mind me dropping around and opening up their grinder to test prototypes for fitment, please PM me! Shorthand terminology for making these rings involves ID= inside diameter and OD= outside diameter. Using the SJ as a model for pictures, the pointer holder is held in place by an insert that goes into the groove around the adjustment collar thread in the casing (white piece). The black piece then supports the pointer going up to the gauge on top of the adjustment collar. All but one person has had enough clearance on the SJ between the case and adjustment collar to allow the 3mm black piece of acrylic to sit in place. If people could check that this is the same for the Major too? To make this insert I will need the ID (red line), OD (black line) and distance between the 'ends' of the groove (green line at the bottom). The insert needs to slide in, so the ID and OD need to be measured in the groove, as the edge corners are curved. If I could also have the diameter of the whole raised area (blue line) The adjustment collar is the easiest - ID (Purple line) and OD (yellow line). Could I get the yellow line as 2 measurements - with and without the edge corrugations, as the smaller one will be the ring diameter and the larger needed to ensure the pointer has clearance. From Urbanbumpkin, the OD= 121.8 and the ID=72.57, approx.
  2. Hi Everyone. After getting a Niche, this beast had to go as we have quite limited space in our flat and i have been keeping mazzer in a standing cupboard most of its life. I said most of its life because i bought it second hand last year from a closed down coffee kiosk. It is 2017 model they got it towards end of 2017 and i got it as far as i remember it was April 2018. Since then i have been enjoying this big flat burrs. Was a improvement over Fiorenzato F64. I have converted it to a single dose grinder (actually 3 double shot). I have been keeping about 60grms of beans in that tube and a constant 850gr steel weight on top. Timer dose was consistent as well as the shots. I still have the massive hopper and lid it comes with. It comes with acrylic fine tune grind adjustment as well. I couldn't find who had been making them here but it works superb. These are as rare as hen's teeth i removed safety thingy in the funnel and antistatic grid. It comes with them as well. As you can see from pictures i bypassed that switch with a cable tie on top of the grinder. If you need to put the original hopper back on just cut the cable tie around it and position it. Threads has been cleaned and greased. Shot count is 2179. I did my best adjusting burrs and marked them in their best position. it has a single scratch and few marks on it overall great condition. I am looking £550 collected from Putney/London or Edenbridge/Kent. Cheers.
  3. As per the Valuations thread. I have this currently at home. Was used at a friends company for a pop up they ran from August until November 2018 and no longer needed. Its in great condition as expected and I expect barely ran in. Still have the original invoice for Ozone Coffee showing a purchase price of just under £1300. Will also be on ebay. Pics on valuations thread......... https://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?49182-Mazzer-Major-Electronic-Purchased-July-2018-(5032-Shots) Price £600
  4. Greetings all I'm having an absolute nightmare trying to find portafilter holders for my mazzer majors to rest the portafilter on when dosing (pictured below). I've seen a few old threads on this with dead links so i'm resurrecting the thread. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
  5. HI all, i picked up a used mazzer Major on ebay earlier today, iv got it home and having been trying to get it set up properly, hoping to get some tips from those of you with experience of the major or any other of the funnelled mazzers.. The burrs look new, very clean and sharp so no issues there. The shot count is at 8500+, i have no idea if thats too high or whether its important or not. The threads on the upper burr are in good nick and looked like they had been freshly greased, the seller owned a chain of cafes so i guess they must have refurbed it. Is there anything i should do in terms of maintenance before i get going properly? Iv used it today and tried to dial it in, think i eneded up going thorugh about 250g of beans ( bought some freshly roasted today on my way home from a coffee shop) just trying to do that, no idea if i am doing it wrong or why it took so long but i think its because the machine chews through beans very quickly so not much time to turn the dial when its running. I think i have it close to espresso grind but i found the shot i pulled didn't seem right. By the time i had got the silvia up to steaming temp the shot had started to split (as in the crema started to dissipate), should that be happening? here is my process - i have weighed the grind to 18g, then stopped the shot at about 36g in the cup which took about 22-25 seconds. The scales i am using are naff so i have ordered some new ones. i pull the shot from the silvia then set aside and wait for the boiler for steam to make a flat white... It tasted OK, but not as good as i had it from my barista express so im definitely doing something wrong... it seems from the dial i have it now any very small movement makes a pretty big difference to the way the shot pulls, is that right or should it be moving more for adjustments? any tips on dialling in or is it something other than the grinder (could it be that the burrs are new?) the other thing i need help with is finding a way to lower the mess it makes, the speed that it grinds at is nuts and the grounds spray all over the place, whats the best way to minimise that? pleased with the purchase so far but its a bit of a learning curve from the barista express which was just easier to use but i am hoping to learn how to use the equipment better so that i can produce much better espresso. I drink mainly flat whites but that's mainly because i have never managed to make an espresso i like drinking at home - even the espresso from bean to cups i have had taste better than mine! Any help is greatly appreciated
  6. I noticed this recently - Note the shipping costs https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazzer-Major-Coffee-Grinder-Doser-Electronic/163181527278?hash=item25fe6080ee%3Ag%3Ap28AAOSwkQZbYxSP&_sacat=0&_nkw=163181527278&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313 I messaged the seller pointing out the shipping costs seemed rather high assuming they had made a mistake. No reply. No intention of buying it but as it only takes seconds thought let the seller know. The photo in the listing looked like a web shot to me - took seconds to find it https://www.bellissimocoffee.com.au/product/mazzer-major-electronic-grinder/ John -
  7. I'm converting my new Mazzer Major to doserless. I found a diagram from a thread on the Kony here: https://www.home-barista.com/grinders/mazzer-kony-removing-doser-microswitch-instructions-t6208.html This shows how to add a jumper when removing the microswitch part of the doser, to replace the existing wiring. This leaves the second twin cable. What do you do with that one?
  8. Mulling over if it's worth upgrading my Sage Smart Grinder in the short term whilst waiting for the Niche to be delivered? I'm thinking that the Sage grinder is my weak link, ignoring myself for a moment I've backed the Niche product as I say but I'm really trying to understand and dial in my shots but so far a lot of frustration. Therefore I was thinking is it worth buying someone like a secondhand Mazzer SJ or Major to play with in the meantime? What puts me off the Mazzer is the retention and faff, which is why I've gone for the Niche in the first place. However, is it still worth playing with so at least I know my grinder is doing the best job and I can get on with learning about coffee? Or, is the Sage grinder good enough for the next few months whilst I wait for the Niche?
  9. We have: Ceado E37S https://www.perfectespresso.ro/en/produs/titanium-grinding-burr-set-ceado-e37s---83mm-flat--1104/ https://www.diecrema.com/coffee-grinders/ceado/ersatz-mahlscheibenpaar-fur-macap-m2.html Mazzer Major 83x49x9.6mm RH Part No. FMA00151A https://www.theespressoshop.co.uk/en/Mazzer-Major-Grinder-Burrs-Pair-OEM---FMA00151A/m-3499.aspx Compak K8 post 2003, 83x49x9.5 https://www.espressoplanet.com/coffee-and-espresso-Compak-K8-Steel-Flat-Burr-Set-83mm.html Fiorenzato 83x44x10mm http://www.espressoworkshop.com/cgi-bin/page.pl?page=1736&title=Fiorenzato-Burrs-83mm-Right Fiorenzato Doge to Major comparison: https://www.home-barista.com/grinders/no-surprise-burr-shape-matters-t19268.html "While the holes aren't in exactly the same place the Major burrs do fit the Doge burr holders. The Doge burrs are 83 x 45 x 10 and the Major burrs are 83 x 49 x 9.6. Outer diameter is the same but the inner diameter is a little smaller. The Major burr has a little steeper angle and a little more "cup" in the shape of the grind face. The shape definitely makes a difference in the grind and speed. The Major burr throws the ground coffee out a little faster and with less grind retention. It also seems to make grinds that are a little stickier with same beans and grind setting. I was surprised to see the difference the shape made! How does it taste in the cup? Well, the Major IMO gives a little cleaner taste and maybe allows better flexibility in dialling in the shot". So Questions: 1. Are these all compatible with each other? 2. What should we make of the differences in shape, and any effect on taste?
  10. I have realized that that my Major (doser) takes roughly 6 secs for a double dose of 16 -17g. At a normal grinding size, let’s say 30 sec on the lever. quickly looking around it seems long, seems like that with 83 mm burrs you expect 3 sec or so. almost if the motor runs half power. Not that I mind of 3 vs 6 secs in duration, I think that if motor or something else is wrong , the entire grinding efficiency is not OK. Before starting a huge troubleshooting exercise, I was wondering if here someone confirms if the impression is correct or not. How long do you expect a major to take for a double dose? if then my suspect is correct, what are the obvious checks that you would do first

    Hello

Hi Ive been lurker for a few years picking up tips, its time to get serious. Just been given a Mazzer major so now i have a great grinder I need to upgrade my espresso machine currently Gaggia classic. Looking at Rocket apartmento so any advice would be very welcome Thanks Lee
  12. Well worth a look if close by https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazzer-Major-Coffee-Grinder/122889677864?hash=item1c9ccbac28:g:jyYAAOSwmphaSS41
  13. Maybe the question is a bit academic, but I was wondering if anyone had both previously, and had any preference, in particular on taste, which is what matters the most. One thinks they should be very very similar...

  16. Hi guys Over the past 12 months or so I have realised that I am as much "in to" coffee machines and grinders as I am log burners! I've always enjoyed a proper coffee, but for many years ran bean to cup machines. As a young dad of two and a full time worker the convenience suited me but at the start of this year I decided to go manual. So I bought a Sage Duo Temp and Sage Smart grinder Pro. I very quickly replaced the Duo Temp with a Fracino Cherub which I love. I still use the Sage grinder but have been looking for the right opportunity to replace it. And it would seem I am getting there, I think. I have just bought a mint, polished silver 2014 Mazzer Major with titanium burrs. I'm very much an amateur and learning all the time but I think I've bought a good machine? Perhaps not ideal for one or two coffees a day but it still seemed like a nice thing to have. I wonder if my wife will feel the same. I have browsed the web and seen lots of mods for the Super Jolly and Major, from simply modifying the existing dosing chamber, to replacing the chamber with a funnel or even the deli spout which looks quite cool. But I want to get it right, so I'm hoping you more experienced folk could offer me some help/advice? Thanks Adam
  17. New Burrs, looks good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazzer-Major-Coffee-Grinder-/201965118360?hash=item2f060f2398:g:dxEAAOSwi8VZUCOJ
  18. Hey, since I will be getting monolith conical very soon and it is a ton of cash getting it to europe I kind of need to sell my two grinders and this one is first up for a sale. It has been bought 2 years ago, its a drogheria with a bag clamp version, i was extremely happy with this grinder, but then upgraditis kicked in pretty hard Its working flawlessly and it is believe it or not its a pretty good SD (single dose) grinder, if you are grinding in a cup (weighting beans in/out) and with one or two open palm bangs you get pretty much all the grinds out. The burrs have been changed lets say 6 months ago, but since i am only going thru a 1.5kg bag per month they are still practically new. Also the 4 springs were changed along with burrs. If you want some detailed photos don't hesitate to contact me, I am more than happy to ship it world wide, just bare in mind that this is a grinder built like military tank and it weights about the same as well (read: it will be expensive to ship it to Asia and USA). Shipping across europe is kind of affordable since GLS is really good and cheap. I can probably find spring and bag holder if its needed, but will have to search a bit Contact me for exact shipping quotes. Payment can be made via PayPal, direct money transfer, Revolut, N26 app. MODERATOR EDIT: PLEASE REPLY ON THREAD Price 300€ + shipping.
  19. Major Electronic £350 BIN or offer on eBay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazzer-Luigi-Srl-Major-Auto-Bean-Grinder-Commercial-Coffee-Machine-/201795464746?hash=item2efbf26e2a:g:d-AAAOSwnHZYihOq Don't see this staying long with the mark up for doserless grinders.

  21. I just want to show the modification. The Major is the 380V one with the C-burrs. I removed everything from the doser und fixed a polished channel. The upper part can be removed for cleaning. I like the original doser more than the funnel. As timer I am using the Sestos B2E. It is working perpect.

    Mazzer major

    Looking for a mazzer major..anyone?
  24. Hi Purchased a second hand 2014 Major auto that requires a Doser switch with the wiring/plugs and a hopper safety switch again with the wiring and. Also if anyone has a wiring diagram showing where the safety cut off switch plugs into that would be really helpful thank you Nick
  25. Hi I purchased the Super Jolly electronic (black version) from A1 in august last year and its only been used at a handful of events and still in as new condition. I'm realising I would have been better off with a doser for my needs so looking to swap and put some cash in for the right machine. would prefer one of a similar age. thanks
