  1. Hi everyone, I posted in the General section earlier. I am a musician and school teacher. I'm so happy there's so much more great coffee in London now than a few years ago. I have a blog page about London coffee here which is part of my webpage/blog. I'm on twitter as philwbass. All the best, Phil
  2. Well a change in planned location of trips today has was going further south to the sea but now am heading up the smoke to stay in my Bros flat in Hackney with the family. From a tent to the city last min lol. His dinky one bed flat overlooks Victoria park which is nice and is in E9 area (has to fit five of us in though!). Never been to his Laaaaandan home. The more exciting thing and immediate thought was COFFEE!!! Gonna start a trawl of the interweb BUT is there anywhere in particular you lot think I should hit and try not to miss coffee wise. Will have family in tow obviously but will hit what I can aaaand there's a skatepark opposite so early (dawn) raids on that then family free coffee of the morn is also on the cards. Last min changes with coffee excitement, nice! and I expect DINOSAURS with the boy (7) so we can bore my teenage daughters hahahaha not been up in years.. Hit me up!
  3. Hi everyone, My name is Julius Ibrahim, I’m looking to launch Second Shot Coffee, a social enterprise café in London that will train, employ, and support the homeless. I really want to start a movement to push social enterprise into the mainstream by tackling homelessness one espresso at a time! I’m currently crowdfunding to get the initiative off the ground at http://bit.ly/secondshotcoffee and we’ve got one week to go to raise as much funds as possible to help us get started. Would really appreciate your support with pledges but also spreading the word to help us launch and start creating impact together! Here’s all our social media, please get in touch if you'd be interested in talking more, or could potentially help out in any way Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Website
  4. Hi All, I'll be in London for two weeks from this coming sunday and staying in the tower hill / Fenchurch area. Are there any recommendations for good coffee shops in this area, so I can get my morning fix! Ta
  5. The UK's espresso revolution began in Soho when, in 1953, an itinerant dental salesman from Italy installed a Gaggia espresso machine in a bombed out laundrette on Frith Street. It would become Moka Bar. Over the next 10 years, a cluster of bohemian espresso bars would appear all over Soho and the wider city: some gothic, some avant-garde. These, believe it or not, were the birthplaces of British rock and roll. Check out my feature in the Telegraph on the espresso revolution of 1950s Soho and mourn their youthful, counter-cultural creativity as house prices soar and the area is invaded by investment banks. Please share the article on Facebook and Twitter. It contains some amazing video footage of 1950s Soho. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/uk/london/12096693/The-fascinating-story-of-Sohos-1950s-espresso-revolution.html

  7. When I know I'm going somewhere I always do a little coffee shop research before arrival. My girlfriend thinks I'm an anal nerd but hey, I love good coffee and I want to be able to enjoy good coffee wherever I am. Come to think of it, I never see her complaining when she's sipping back a tasty long black! Anyway, we were in London last weekend and travelled into Euston so I knew I wanted to go somewhere nice around that area. We wanted some decent food to complement our coffee too so opted for Caravan Restaurant and Coffee Roasters which is just behind Kings Cross/St Pancras stations in Granary Square, what seems like a new development. Caravan definitely didn't disappoint. Its situated in an old Victorian Grain store and is a big open space with loads of seating. It had a great atmosphere, good music and friendly staff. Plus, we managed to get a table for two on a busy Saturday lunchtime with no hassle which was great. Coffee was extremely tasty. Pretty sure they were serving their Daily Blend which is freshly roasted on site. Bit fruitier than your traditional espresso but really interesting. They also had a choice of 2 filter coffees (one blend and one single origin) and provided supporting material so you could read about each one and make an informed decision based on cup profile. I really like it when places do this. We ate off the brunch menu and food was a bit pricier than I'm used to in Chester but I was happy to pay the extra seeing as the quality was so good. Think it cost us around £27 for the two of us and it was definitely worth it. Left with a smile on my face, feeling full and satisfied! You can buy their freshly roasted espresso blends and single origin beans on site and you can stare lovingly at their beautiful Probat roaster which is on display if you're a geek like me. Highly recommend this one.
  8. So I'm in a meeting all day in Chancery Lane but have half an hour to spare by the time I get there and wondered where I should grab a coffee from! Both have great reviews and I'm torn!. Time is of the essence here people, I'm just about to arrive at Waterloo....please stop what you're doing, pull the cars over, put down the phone, land the plane, whatever it is you're doing, this is a real emergency! Ta! Andy
  9. I was reading the thread http://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?28461-London-s-Best-of-the-Best and realising that I haven't been to many places in London. I wondered if any of you good forum types might be interested in a bit of a London coffee crawl? I don't know enough places to have strong preferences, so my current thinking is start at Origin in Shoreditch and progress from there. I'll more than likely throw up some different suggestions for places to visit and either we could decide together, or I may just suddenly become a caffeine dictator, or curator and try to put together an itinerary myself...I don't have strong preferences on location, just avoiding spending too much of the day travelling around seems to make sense. We'll be meeting up on 30th July with the current plan being to follow this route https://www.mapcustomizer.com/map/ldneastcoffee
