  1. Roaster Experience Days are worthwhile events to visit. Yesterday Steve Leighton (HasBean) opened up his roastery to 30+ people for a day of coffee drinking, socialising and coffee education. This included the first live recording of In My Mug, his informative and passionate Video Podcast. The 30+ people that attended came from all walks of life and it was refreshing to get a completely different viewpoint about peoples expectations of what a coffee should be and what it represents to them. Colin Harmon (2009 Irish Barista Champion) was a surprise guest and had been flown in from Dublin to work the La Spaziale machine, pulling shots of HasBeans finest roasts for the guests. The £5 cover charge for the day is being donated to a coffee charity. Guests were able to try coffee's brewed via a number of methods including espresso, filter and Clover, and were walked through the entire roasting process, from green to cup (including a cupping) Thanks for being a great host Steve. There is no word in the dictionary to describe your passion and enthusiasm for coffee. Last but not least, embracing social media, there was a live video feed on UStream and many tweets sent. Thanks everyone for making it a memorable day and to all of those who pitched in to help out at some point, giving the host a bit of time to breathe.
  2. Hi there, Newly registered here although it's fair to say I have been lurking and absorbing all the information from this very interesting forum! My main reason for starting to read the forum contents was when my bean to cup machine died on me (although it's ok....don't worry, it has been fixed and I should have it back soon!). But after reading the entries here....unfortunately it is going to cost me lots of money! I have decided to take the plunge and buy a semi-automatic setup as well as keeping my bean to cup machine. I think my lovely wife would possibly kill me if I made her have to learn the full process, so the bean to cup option at least gives her decent coffee when I am away. So....right now my purchases are going to be as follows: *** Rancilio Silvia - from Hasbean *** Ascaso i-Mini Non Doser Grinder - may be from MyEspresso (even though I have read the bad reports I can't find anyone nearly matching their price) *** An In My Mug subscription from Hasbean *** plus all the ancillaries that seem to be required in the hunt for the perfect coffee! Lets hope the information from this site has gone into my brain or I may be asking lots of questions!
  3. I think there are several IMM subscribers on the boards, so I thought it'd be good to have a thread to discuss the current beans separate from the 'What's in your cup this morning?" thread - compare tastes and brewing methods etc. This weeks - Bolivia Copacabana 2012 How's anyone getting on with this? I was looking forward to it as the tasting notes sounded right up my street, but I'm struggling to get any peaches, mangoes etc. I've tried it in a chemex and V60 and though by no means bad tasting, it just seems a bit flat and dull. I'll try it in an aeropress next.
  4. Hello all, Been a member here for around 1.5 years, began roasting nearly 3 years ago. Opened the Smokey Barn roastery in early 2011 and I'm now looking to promote our beans! I'm keen to get some feedback from the general forum on some of our coffees. So if you would like a small selection of free coffee, please drop me a PM with your name & address and I'll get some sent out to you. All I ask in return is that you provide some feedback. I'll probably limit this to around 5-10 people. Many thanks! Chris

  6. This coffee is exclusive to Has Bean and the 2009 crop was a standout, ranking as one of the top 5 coffees I tasted last year. I was looking forward to trying the 2010 crop and have not been disappointed at all. With rich chocolately flavours hitting the tastebuds, and all sweetness receptors working overtime, this coffee is best enjoyed as an Espresso, Macchiato or Cortado. At a stretch I would use it as a base for a flat white, but it loses its magic in a cappuccino or latte. Lovingly grown in the Yungas region of Bolivia, roasted in Staffordshire and enjoyed all across the UK, this coffee remains in the top 5 coffee's I have enjoyed this year too. I am yet to try this as a Filter / Chemex, and will need to buy another bag to do so as this disappeared far too quickly. Get in quick, I don't know how much is left as this has been featured on Has Bean's In My Mug video podcast also.
