  1. For those interested in such things, we are offering 20% off Hario V60 white 01 & 02 drippers, plain or with a logo, until the 5th August as part of our 2018 Summer Sale. Check it out at coffeecups.co.uk/summer-sale-2018 Thanks all
  2. This is a size 01 (the small one) and some filter papers. I've found it more faff than the 02 so didn't really use it much, the papers have escaped their packaging and are in a sandwich bag and not all neat and pretty... But hey, it's free (for postage, small parcel about £3) I'm doing a post Christmas clear out. If there's lots of interest I'll pick at random, I'll give 24 hours for you to register interest.
  3. Hi guys, I have a Hario Medium hand grinder and Hario V60 with roughly 80ish size 2 filters if anyone is interested £20 delivered. Both in great condition.
  4. I bought a Hario 02 set up about 2 weeks ago for cupping. Worked really well and I was happy with it... until the glass spout cracked. It's about £18 to replace it and on closer look it seems very delicate. I'm sure it's been discussed before but I couldn't find it... so here I am. I was wondering what your experiences are and if you're using any alternatives. Erlenmeyer flask springs to mind....
  5. Hi everyone, this is Heru LS, a communication specialist living in Leeds, and obviously a coffee lover. I'm from Indonesia, and will soon back to my homeland in this year, miss the Indonesia coffee since the first day arrived in Leeds. My first coffee sip was in 1990's in my house in North Aceh, Sumatera Island. It was only a sip because my father suddenly reprimanded because I was deemed too small. I was just in primary school. I've started consuming coffee again while studying at the University, in Yogyakarta, Java Island, in 2000. It was only an instant coffee, sometimes worst, a sachet coffee. Then I've started to appreciate specialty coffee in Yogyakarta in 2010, mostly from joined a cupping event. I love reading, then I read many coffee blogs. I have visited a coffee plantation in Takengon, Gayo, Central Aceh, Sumatera Island, in 2012. But unfortunately, I made no conversation with the farmer, only taking a lot of photos on it. That was because my visited is only for enjoying the nature, and I'm not started yet growing my curiosity about specialty coffee. I bought my first hand grinder in 2013, a Tiamo. Since 2015, I only bought single origin whole bean from several roastery for consuming at home. Currently, my tools are a Porlex hand grinder, an Aeropress, and Hario V60 dripper with a server for 2 cups, a digital thermometer, and a bad and inaccurate digital kitchen scale, hope soon to raise money to have a good one. I had attended the Generation Coffee event held by La Marzocco in London, in 2012. A very rewarding experience, opens my eyes directly about how the specialty coffee scenes in the UK, rather than only read it online. Hoped enough as an introduction. I'm here to learn, making new friends, and hope can get information of best prices for some tools or beans.

  7. I have been looking at the Vario and the Aeropress as my starting kit but cannot decide which one to make the plunge for. Could anyone with experience of the both shed any light or give me any pointers etc to which is the better of the two or possibly any other. Thank you
  8. Hi, New to the forum following my quest for a nice cup of coffee. After visiting a friend who had a lovely espresso machine im now hooked on getting a better home cuppa. Im not sure how far to take it so am looking at a starting point of geeting a nice brewed cup. Currently i use shop bought ground coffee in a french press but would like to improve on this. Can anyone suggest equipment at under £100 to get me started on my quest? Cheers;)
  9. Hi all I have a Hario V60-02 server set and my pouring kettle only arrived last weekend so this past week I have been using it properly for the first time, and as you have probably guessed from the title my results have not been good. I saw this video on youtube it is one of almost thousands of V60 videos available but the only one where I know the person is using the same grinder as me, a Hario Ceramic Slim. I contacted the user and he said the grind setting he uses for V60 is, turn the adjustment nut as tight as it will go (finest) then unwind it 8 clicks. This I used as a starting point but in all my resulting brews I am getting a strong/dark taste to the coffee which is not smooth at all and it makes the coffee bland in that I cannot "taste" the coffee. I started using the usual 60g/1L so 12g/200ml and I have tried everything from up dosing to 14g/200ml and even changing my grind from 5 clicks up to 12-13 clicks but I just cannot escape this dark taste. I have always left my water standing for however long it takes me to grind the coffee and it is standing in a glass serving vessel for probably 30+sec before I transfer it to my pouring device so I have eliminated scorching the grinds. My timing is pretty good I finish pouring 200ml in 2min and it comes through anywhere between 2 min –2.20-2.30 I have seen so many V60 videos and in all of hem it looks easy(ish) but I must be jinxed or something. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what the hell is going on here as I have just about gone through a whole 250g bag of beans without 1 decent cup and it is frustrating. Many thanks HLA91
  10. Hi all Just received my V60 today and have been playing with it, so far the results have gone from too strong to too weak but I am slowly getting there. The problem I am finding is that there are so many videos and tutorials but I just don't seem to be able to replicate them. Glenn advised me to aim for 12g/200mls/2m15sec, is a video which replicate Glenns timing, then I get 1.25 (including bloom) and it is too strong. the pour time (not including bloom) is 34 seconds so call it just over 1 minute for what looks like 250ml, so is this an bad pour? I really don't know how I can slow my time down, at 1.25 I am getting a strong espresso type taste hitting the back of my mouth which is not pleasant at all, yet by the looks of it my time should be longer and I am using 15g/250ml. Should I grind even finer and hope that my bad taste is down to under-extraction? Can someone help me here please? Many thanks HLA91
  11. Lovely bright sunny day up here in the North-East, and I'm starting off with an espresso from Hasbean's 2010 Premium Blend. I roasted these on Thursday, going a little bit darker than I normally would, and it seems to have suited the blend well. A subtle sweetness to the aftertaste. What's everyone else drinking?
