1. Hi All, For sale is my Wilfa Svart Grinder (Purchased from Square Mile - May-17). Boxed/Instructions and maintained in fantastic condition. A great brewed grinder, surplus to requirements. £75 delivered - perfect condition Many Thanks Andy
2. Hi, HAND GRINDER WANTED:- Gonna need to slim down for a while - so I will be basic - hand grinder and caftiere of aeropress. So looking for burr hand grinder to help with a half decent brew. (Also any suggest beans that are happy with back to basic methods) Thanks Geoff
3. I have bought a new Gaggia Classic machine and own a Dualit Burr Coffee Grinder 75002 (£60-80). I am finding that I can't get the magic 20-25 seconds on a single shot with the finest grind setting and tamping down. I have been using 9-10g of ground coffee to stop it coming through too quickly - and even then it tastes very bitter. After purchasing the Silvia wand upgrade and unpressurised baskets I'm over £200 out of pocket and can't get a decent espresso. I've seen that the Iberital MC2 is the way a lot of people go - but plus VAT and P&P it's in the bounds of £150 again. What options do I have regarding hand grinders - are they a good option and can they perform better than the Dualit I have? I.e. Hiero grinder vs Porlex?
4. I have only tried it once before and the burrs seemed to gum up with bits of bean which led me to believe that these grinders really were not designed to do this. However I know there are people on here that do it (so it must be possible) and I'm sure people who can offer some insight into the pros and cons of it. Does it work well, and crucially are the results in the cup better than hand grinding? For example will grinding for v60 with a set of 83mm flats be better than hand grinding with a small conical burr set? The main downside of doing it seems to be the need to switch between grind settings constantly. Needing to re-dial-in espresso etc. etc. However, in my case I have recently come across a solution which would negate this downside. Tl;dr Is it worth investigating grinding for brewed on a Royal?
5. what are people using as their grind setting for the rhino hand grinder, does it vary between beans? I'm finding 1 click from finest is getting a double shot in around 22 seconds on a gaggia classic.
6. I have had this grinder for a while, and I'll start by saying I don't have anything to compare it to hand grinder wise, so this is just my experience of it rather than an exhaustive review on how good it is in comparison to the market. Its safe to say the Hario Mini Mill is one of the cheapest hand grinders you can buy, bar a few unknown brands. Mine cost me £17 delivered to my door at the time which is dead cheap when a Porlex will set you back around £30. Cheap, however, I think for a good reason. The grind consistency is really very poor. Again this is just in comparison to Mazzer SJ I use at home, but the difference in the size of the grinds it produces is huge: (Click to make bigger) The above was with a particularly tough bean, I had to put some real welly into it to grind it, and this is where it is at its worst, it fares slightly better with darker/more brittle roasts. This has to be largely down to the somewhat loose floating bottom burr: Which just has a huge amount of give in it, I can see exactly why a tough chunky piece could get through one side whilst smaller pieces grind up on the other. Grinding fresh coffee in this will be better than buying pre-ground, but if you care enough about the flavor of the coffee to be buying fresh in the first place, it probably pays to save a bit and buy a more respected hand grinder.
7. Hi all. Selling my porlex mini, great condition. Purchased around one year ago, used to grind approx 1-2kg or beans. Burrs in good condition. Collection from stafford area or buyer to organise delivery. £40 or nearest offer. Cheers. JP
8. Hi Guys, Long-time coffee fan, finally getting into the espresso game properly after always wondering why my homemade americanos tasted so mediocre. Did some Googling, found this forum and then realised the many errors I'd been making. My current "setup", if you can even call it that: Dualit Espressivo, Krups blade grinder (I know, I know) and a Bialetti stove top. The Bialetti produces marginally better coffee, I assume because it's more tolerant of a poor consistency grind. I know that properly made espresso doesn't come cheap but, since my budget isn't infinite, I'm going to have to look at making my upgrades one at a time. From the lurking I've done here, it seems like the grinder is the best place to start, especially as I can make things slightly better with my Dualit by buying a non-pressurised basket, even if the water temperature isn't quite high enough. As I'll be only be making a small quantity of coffee, I was considering a high-quality hand grinder like the Feld47, saving a bit of money by buying a cosmetic 2nd. What do people think? Am I better off spending the same amount of money on a second-hand electric grinder? If so, what would be the best one to go for? I'm a few posts short of being able to view the for sale section on the forum. Many thanks in advance, Baristapprentice
9. Hi, I'm after a Push tamper or palm style tamper like the Mahlgut Buzzer or Palm or a Pullman Palm. Or something along those lines please. I appreciate there is a set of Mahlguts on the sale thread, however this is for a set and doubt he is wanting to split, and following forum rules, I wont ask. Let me know what youve got..............
10. Ive 3 of these unused and still boxed. £20 each posted to UK mainland address.
11. I am looking to treat myself to a new hand grinder for an upcoming trip away. Currently I have a Rhino, so something beyond ceramic burrs etc. The aergrind looks great, but I’m worried about the recent comments on build quality on newer ones. I’d rather not go for something like a Lido as I’d like to keep things on the smaller/more portable side. Cheers
12. Hi all, Just wanted to get some opinions on these two hand grinders. I'm looking for a grinder to use with my Aeropress. So far it's come down to one of the following two: Hario Medium Glass Hand Coffee Grinder or Porlex Mini Mill Hand Grinder. Could anyone advise on which one of these (or which other one I haven't considered) would be best? Thanks!
13. Up for sale is my 2013 HG One with Ti Burrs. This was FranBrandariz HG one which I have de-motorised. It has the titanium burrs which in my opinion are superior as it grinds much more easily. This ease of grinding is particularly of benefit with light roasted beans which are harder and require more force and can be a little tough with the Mazzer BB burrs which can give inconsistent grind speed and therefore grind inconsistency as a result. It has a couple of small imperfections which were there when I bought it and I've tried to photograph. I'm happy to post this if the buyer wants to organise this. It pairs excellently with the Olympia Cremina and I'm happy to do a package deal price of £1350 for the pair or £700 on its own.
