  1. Hi, Does anyone know of a retailer that might be interested in doing a group buy on a Rocket Appartamento if we could get say a minimum of 3 or 4 people together that want one? Further to this, would anyone be interested in one? Obviously at the moment this is all just in my head until I find a retailer that is willing to do a deal! Thanks, Adam
  2. So here it is, I know a number of you have been waiting for this so here goes. Please read the group buy rules before posting in this thread. By participating in this Group Buy all participants agree to release Coffee Forums UK, its Owners, Administrators, Moderators or any other staff of any and all liability and waive all rights I may have under all laws and governing bodies. By posting in this thread you agree you are entering a binding contract between the Organiser and the Participant. So to the nitty gritty The plates will be available to you at a cost of £17.80 including postage and VAT- the price to me has gone up slightly since last time and the plates are also heavier than I expected so postage is slightly more. In order to run the group buy I need to have at least 15 of the plates ordered and the group buy is open to a total of 30 participants maximum- you may order more than one plate per person. This group buy will open for new participants until Sunday September the 7th 2014. Once the group buy closes all participants will be expected to pay by no later than Sunday September 14th or no goods will be ordered for them. You will be able to pay by either bank transfer or Paypal. Please start a list adding your name and the number of plates in the usual fashion. Charlie
  3. This potential group buy has a few caveats that must be accepted by anyone wishing to participate Please read this fully before entering your name to the list Known costs: RRP USD $129.00 Delivery in the UK either £5.90 recorded or £8.00 Special delivery Cost of delivering to the UK (reduced for a bulk order) Known costs that cannot be divulged in an open forum = Cost of the unit for the group buy The reason for the unit cost not being able to be divulged is that the unit price for the group buy is likely to be the same or less than the wholesale price of the units to the UK distributor (when the distributor agreement has been signed) Unknown costs: Tax / Customs Charges / Import Duty (assume 20% + handling charge (estimated to be a few £ per person)) In order to participate I would need commitment from each participant to; 1) Pay the unit price of $129 2) Pay any applicable taxes due (20% + £3) 3) Choose the delivery type and pay for this (lets assume £8) Total upfront cost 1) £78.00 2) £19.00 3) £8.00 Sub Total ) £105.00 less Rebate) £TBA What will then happen, is that the actual cost of the landed item will be calculated and a refund for the difference processed (given back to you) when the item is dispatched I know this seems like an odd way to do this but as these are potentially going to be cheaper than the UK landed model and the margins for the distributor need to be protected this seems to be the most sensible option. I anticipate the net cost will be in the region of £90 To participate, please add your name to the list below I will keep the pre-order open for 1 week (closing 26 April) and then if we have enough for a group buy (minimum 10, ideally 15 or 20) I will ask for £105 to be deposited into my account The items will then be ordered Once landed the rebate will be calculated and processed for the difference The items will be shipped via your chosen method Please Note: The amount chargeable on the Acaia site is only $149 incl shipping (approx. £90) and does not include any customs fees Therefore, please choose whether to buy direct or via a Group Buy If no customs fees are incurred then you may save an additional £19 Please view the Acaia specs on http://acaia.co Additional Notes: Any warranty issues would be between the buyer and the vendor (Acaia) Damaged items will need to be returned at buyers cost to Acaia (in the USA) If sent by Special Delivery in the UK the item is insured. This may not apply to Signed For deliveries.
  4. Due to a lack of interest in selling a second hand Pharos to me (see Wanted, I presume everyone loves their Pharos too much to part), and coffehit having no intention of stocking it any time soon, I'm going to order directly from Orphan Espresso. Just thought I'd see if anyone wanted to tag on to my order, anything that would be cost prohibitive for them to order separately. Obviously if it adds any postage that would need to be paid also. So, if you need screws, washer, replacement handle, etc, let me know. I'll be ordering tonight or tomorrow, speak up soon. I checked postage by adding a few small (light) parts to my basket, and it didn't make any difference to postage cost - currently $75.81. To clarify: - As long as postage remains the same I will pay, over that I will not pay. - Courier charge (in U.K.) for collecting tax, I will pay. - Assuming the package gets stopped at customs, there will be an additional 20-25% tax on top of list price. Swap the $ for £, that's roughly what it'll cost by the time it gets here. - Check https://www.coffeehit.co.uk/orphan-espresso.html first, if they have items, probably the same price as ordering from http://www.oehandgrinders.com/. - Really I'm offering to add small items (repair & maintenance), that cannot be sourced elsewhere at reasonable price.
  5. Just gauging interest really. I know Steve at HasBean sells a lot of different greens but it's always nice to try different suppliers, and Sweet Marias have a really great Choice and sell in bags of 1lb which seems a nice size to try a few out. The postage looks to be around $50 but split between 5 or 6 that might not be so bad. I was thinking of buying 4 or 5 1lb bags for myself, so let me know if you wanted to do the same.
  6. I've been wanting to order some stuff from this chappie for ages and I can hold off no longer As my order will be over $200AUD I get free shipping so I thought I'd ask on here if anyone on here wants anything from this artisan maestro. I'll be ordering no later than Friday evening. A couple of pointers.... (don't be filthy a) The free shipping is from Australia to my house. From here to you, depending on your order, we can sort out at the time or if you're local to Sheffield you're more than welcome to collect. b) This does not mean it wont get VAT smacked or Duty drop kicked so keep that in mind too. If you're not familiar with his work I'd take a look for sure, there's some beautiful items to be had and its about £1 - $1.75 AUD at the minute. https://www.artisansmith.com.au/ Have fun justifying your spend
  7. I've been speaking to the folks over at Sage about the possibility of organising a group buy for the naked portafilters. As I'm sure you all are aware there are no aftermarket alternatives as of yet and due to the fact that they are made of solid stainless steel, they are rather pricey. The sales & marketing director at Sage is onboard and will be getting me some preliminary quotes this week. He will also be letting me know when they would have sufficient stock of the naked portafilters to service the group buy. If you would just let me know if you are interested so I can be sure that it is worthwhile organising this.
  8. Simple small 50mm x 50mm pressed aluminium tins with a proper screw top lid for keeping beans dosed up. I was initially looking at a batch of 200 tins and 25 tins per member but upon checking the website it will probable work better as an order of 400 tins and 20 tins for 20 members this will achieve free postage and make things the cheapest they can be. For 10 members (20 tins ea) the order will cost £115 - 115/10 = £11.50ea plus p&p Whereas; For 20 members (20 tins ea) the order will cost £200 - 200/20 = £10.00ea plus p&p Not much in there in terms of price, but I know postage wont be the cheapest as 20 tins would be a large volume and it will have to be boxed. There is potential to split the total number of tins up further, but I'm looking for good numbers where postage won't dominate the percentage of the price of goods (damned couriers) Lids do not have any plastic so unfortunately you cannot see the beans like the ones I currently use, but the window is actually pretty naff and you can break it / remove it fairly easily hence moving toward an all aluminium screw top version. Cheers, Callum
  9. The clue is in the title, I have secured a great group buy for the expobar dual boiler, but it will require at least 5 forum members to fully commit to the purchase. The deal includes a complete warranty and is backed by a reliable machine supplier, as an example the cost for a tank fed brewtus will work out at £1000 plus delivery, once I have confirmed people I will divulge more about the deal, the reason for the great price is that the supplier can bilk buy direct from expobar and thus pass us on the saving. This will be available for the next couple of weeks, if we get the required numbers it is a definite goer, if not including only 4 people then unfortunately it cannot be done. Add your name here if you are a definite..
  10. I'm potentially looking at setting up a group buy for genuine Super Jolly Burrs. These would be shipped in from Italy so shipping cost is going to be fairly horrendous if its just for one set. However if i'm able to get a few people (approx 6-10) involved then it could cost in OK. At the moment it's looking like the SJ burrs could cost in at approx £20 + postage It also looks like they do SJ lower burr carriers for about £28 +postage. All I'm trying to do at the moment is gauge interest to see if there's enough people who would be interested. Please register any potential interest and if there's enough of us, I can look into this further.
  11. As per the title & its been done elsewhere on other forums . There are some roasters in Europe which I understand are well worth the time and trouble, problem understandably being postage rates. Would any folk on here be prepared to all come together to purchase enough and split the postage? Perhaps Glenn you could be the central hub of this? This isnt that UK roasters are not doing it for me right now but I think it would be pretty cool to check out some of Europe's finest. Was thinking Coffee Collective, Tim Wendleboe etc. Not sure if this could be stretched to U.S roasters due to delays in shipping that far..... Thoughts?
  12. Have spoken to Peter at Espresso Underground. He may be able to supply the Quamar M80E, and at a favourable price. But what would help is enough interested people to justify a slightly larger order. So if anyone is interested in one of these lovely grinders, give me a shout and I can let peter know. Ta
  13. Hi everyone, now that it's been done before we know it works Technically, that is. If you're interested, maybe we can fill another big box? I did a little copy/paste from the test thread, just got the exchange rate updated. - up to 20 members (my first group buy) may - order between 15 and 20kg total - at €24 or €26 per kilo if you order by 500g bags (£21.68 or £23.48 today) - at €26 or €28 per kilo, respectively, if you choose 250g bags (£23.48 or £25.29 today) - through our online shop and choose "CFUK consolidated shipment" for €4.50 (£4.06 today) How it's done after group buy closes - we'll send one big box containing all smaller boxes to trustworthy member @Nicknak who kindly agreed to unpack and post out individual parcels, immediately - within about a week from roasting date you should have the order at your doorstep - we pay for the big shipment via DPD. Only domestic RM postage is on you Some more info: - at 1 kilo batches we're a true mirco roastery - despite the online shop being all English, product labels will be in German (for an exotic experience ) - feel free to take a look the online shop over here, but please do not place any orders until we've reached the total minimum quantity of 15 kilos - we've got the same lineup as during test period, also planning to keep these coffees as our standard repertoire - one additional bean will be online from following weekend on (have a batch resting to be taken to another tasting as espresso and V60, rather light stuff) - our definition of a light roast is straight at end of first crack, our definition of a medium roast is mid-way between first and second crack - just as a heads up: our espresso blends contain quality Guatemalan robusta beans (10% in Vöcklabrand and 30% in Zündfunke) Whoever wishes to take part, please create a list below, stating your name and order, like: 1. Hasi (500g Sigri, 500g La Fortuna Light Roast) and quote the last post above containing an order. In case I've forgot anything, just let me know Looking very much forward to this!! Cheers, Matt Disclaimer according to our Group Buy rules: By participating in this Group Buy all participants agree to release Coffee Forums UK, its Owners, Administrators, Moderators or any other staff of any and all liability and waive all rights I may have under all laws and governing bodies. 14. Hi everyone, some of you have followed my quest of late in the Road to Roasting thread and subsequently have shown interest in trying out our beans. I'm very grateful to having received such great attention, kind words, advice and thumbs up from many of you as we've progressed! As well, I highly value the honest feedback from members who had been sampled to date (you know who you are!). Therefore, I did quite some research and requested numerous offers from parcel services to get those beans over the Channel. All my efforts led down the same blind alley... super expensive. But there's light at the end of the tunnel! After getting cleared by @Glenn, here's my suggestion to bring costs down: - up to 20 members (my first group buy) may - order between 15 and 20kg total - at €24 or €26 per kilo if you order by 500g bags (£20.54 or £22.25 today) - at €26 or €28 per kilo, respectively, if you choose 250g bags (£22.25 or £23.96 today) - through our freshly set up online shop and - choose "CFUK consolidated shipment" for €4.50 (£3.85 today) What's so special? - we'll send one big box containing all smaller (and already stamped) boxes to one trustworthy member who unpacks and posts out individual parcels immediately - the way I've calculated transit time, it could very well be there within a week from roasting date. Remember, you're taking part in a test so please don't shoot me if it took 8 or 9 days! - we pay for the big shipment. Only domestic RM postage is on you - watch out for a fun little goodie - we pack an additional 500g special surprise bag as a compensation for the trustworthy member - organising this group buy, we are able to offer you fine Austrian beans at a far more favourable price than through an individual order Some more info: - at 1 kilo batches we're a true mirco roastery - despite the online shop being all English, product labels will be in German (for an exotic experience ) - feel free to take a look the online shop over here, but please do not place any orders until we've reached the total minimum quantity of 15 kilos - this well hidden shop link is the only way to get there, we have not yet launched it, officially! Your chance to be a VB buyoneer - if this test is a winner, we might very well do it more often in the future - thank you in advance! Looking very much forward to this!! Excitement ahead! Cheers, Matt Disclaimer according to our Group Buy rules: By participating in this Group Buy all participants agree to release Coffee Forums UK, its Owners, Administrators, Moderators or any other staff of any and all liability and waive all rights I may have under all laws and governing bodies. 16. **Update 6 - Group Buy Closed. Please let me know in the thread if your package has arrived safely.** **Update 5 - Those who have made payment your packages will be sent 28th November.** **Update 4 - Payment requests have been sent out. When making Bank Transfer please ensure you use your forum name as reference. Once all have paid I shall post the items out and PM each individual their tracking number** **Update 3 - Final Price for the Brass Shower Plate is £13.45. Sorry about the price increase. I selected a cheaper non insured service before. These will now be sent Royal Mail Signed For 1st Class** **Update 2 - Cost now £12.50 each as I can send this as a First Class Large Letter** **Update 1 - Maximum number of participants I need is 15** I've been given the nod by Glenn and hopefully there is still enough interest for these following the closure of the previous group buy. These will be ordered direct at a discounted price from Espresso Services. Cost breakdown as follows: Total £13.50 each which includes Royal Mail delivery UK only (small parcel size £2.80 - Non Recorded) and the cost of a jiffy bag (20p). Cost of each brass plate is £10.50 inc VAT. So basically £5.22 saving compared to buying direct and £4.30 compared to the last group buy attempt. I'm not gaining any profit from this and the maximum number of participants I need is 19. The final closing date for the group buy is 28th November and payment is expected no later than December 2nd (Bank Transfer Only) I will have the plates with me by next week, so if the list is filled before the closing date I can send payment details and have the items ready to post immediately (no waiting on the items to be ordered from supplier). Please start a list adding your name and the number of plates required. This Group Buy is for UK residents only, I will not send items abroad. Cheers
  17. The above group buy is now running in the group buy subforum and needs at least 15 of you wanting one or 15 plates in total for it to go ahead. Plenty of you were asking for them so please sign up if you want one.
  18. A few people have expressed an interest in Urnex Grindz the best price I can get it for is £15(inc VAT) plus postage. If you want some please add yourself to the list in one of the group buy threads, or add it in next to your name if you are already making an order. I won't be taking any more orders after midnight GMT tomorrow, Friday Feb 7th.
